According to Fortnite leakers, Epic Games is currently working on an economy update for the upcoming Fortnite Creative 2.0 patch that will allow in-game content creators to earn money in a new way other than Support-A-Creator.
Called Creator Economy 2.0, this new economic system will apparently feature a payout based on the number of engagements based on the islands that creators release. Spotted on a leaked image from a developer community page, the description for the new feature reads: “Introducing engagement payouts, a new way for island creators to earn based on what players enjoy.” Prior to this development, content creators in Fortnite Creative could only earn money if other players used their codes for purchasing Item Shop skins and cosmetics using the Support-A-Creator tab. However, this new addition could probably encourage more fans to spend time on Fortnite Creative to deliver fresh experiences.
It is yet to be seen how far Epic Games can go with this new economic system, as we don’t yet know the details, including the metrics for how much creators could earn for a certain amount of player engagement. Roblox is currently a pretty popular platform with a similar economic system for its game creators and developers, but it is too soon to consider Fortnite Creative 2.0 a competitor for Roblox.
Epic Games is currently preparing to release a Fortnite-dedicated Unreal Editor, which will allow players to design and develop new games and experiences and publish them directly into Fortnite. According to Epic Games, the upcoming Unreal Editor, which is a PC application, will work side-by-side with the Fortnite Creative tools, allowing players on consoles and PC to develop their projects while benefiting from Unreal Engine 5’s cutting-edge technologies such as modeling, VFX, Sequencer, and Control Rig.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 arrived earlier this month. Creative 2.0 was also supposed to be released at the same time, but Epic Games delayed it by a few weeks. Now, the Unreal Editor is set for release on March 22. It is expected that the new economic system will also get a full announcement along with Creative 2.0’s launch.
