Fire Emblem Engage features new characters, mechanics, and a pretty long storyline, offering an engaging new entry in the Fire Emblem series.Teaming up with past Fire Emblem characters is possible with the new Engage mechanic, labeling past characters as Emblems that characters can equip. Fan favorites like Roy, Marth, and Sigurd provide specific boosts and abilities, depending on class and weapon choice.
There are so many ways a team, character, and fight can unfold. When characters can get knocked out and are never able to return to the battle again, each fight counts. This means having the strongest characters, team layout, and strategy. Some characters start out with higher stats than others, better growth rates to specific stats, and all-around different abilities. Each team is fresh, unique, and has a chance on the battlefield in its own way.
Goldmary is a royal knight whose origins are located in Elusia. She’s an only child, competitive, and slightly vain in her personality. She has skills in the culinary field that she’s not afraid to boast about. Goldmary is friends with Hortesia. Similarly, she’s also Hortesia’s retainer. This royal knight is first seen in Chapter 7: Dark Emblem, but she doesn’t join until Chapter 16: Seashore Emblem.
Being in the Backup range of the fight, Goldmary starts as a hero when she first joins the team. She won’t be doing much on the frontline due to her low build and magic. Her personal Emblem skill is Disarming Sigh, her being the only character with Disarming Sigh. When the enemy ahead is male, 20 damage is inflicted during the battle. This is very useful, considering her strength isn’t the highest in both her base stats and based on her stat growth. While it’s solid enough to keep her in battle and fighting at a decent pace, her skill helps her get extra points in when she needs to.
Level | HP | Str | Mag | Dex | Spd | Lck | Def | Res | Bld |
3 | 40 | 17 | 2 | 18 | 20 | 13 | 20 | 12 | 9 |
HP | Bld | Str | Mag | Dex | Spd | Def | Res | Lck |
65% | 5% | 30% | 5% | 25% | 25% | 55% | 25% | 25% |
Her stats shine in her HP and Defense. While she joins the team with solid Speed as well, her speed growth rate is low compared to her higher growth rates. Goldmary’s stats reflect her backup status. Supporting other team members is a backup’s main goal, so it makes sense to have such high HP and Defense — perfect for taking the hit for weaker team members. In her base class and stats, she’s best paired with someone very offensive and in the front of a battle to create an equilibrium with her defensive nature.
Goldmary will never be the best at wielding anything Magic. Her Magic starts at 2 and has a 5% growth rate. This is very small and will make it tough to handle magic weaponry, skills, or spells — giving her a heavier item won’t work well, either. Her Build also has a 5% growth rate, starting out at 9. For whoever is put on the team with Goldmary, choose someone with a big Build stat to better carry those large weapons in battle.
Goldmary is very fit for her own class, the hero class. This is supported by her good Defense and Health. In turn, her lower Magic and Build will need some larger and more Magic-based characters to fill in those blanks. The Hero class is one of the best for her, with not much of a need for her to be outside this class at any point.
For weaponry, the Silver Sword is a very solid base weapon. It doesn’t have any strong abilities specific to it or any major downsides that make it not worth wielding. Along with this, Goldmary will receive the Sword Power ability with the Silver Sword and Roy as an Emblem. The Hand Axe is a good range weapon to use, helping her stand in the back and not get into too much conflict, yet allowing her to attack from where she stands. The Brave Sword is a viable sword option for Goldmary, but it could slow her down in combat if not equipped with the right stats. Using Lyn and the Brave Sword could combat this, both having a speedy Emblem and good Strength to match it.
Goldmary can fit a pretty good General. Utilizing that extremely high Defense and average Strength, she can pack a punch. Being a General also fits her base fighting style of being a backup, as Generals won’t be usually up in the front.
The Silver Axe is good for being a solid base weapon. The Silver Greataxe is stronger though, and useful for Goldmary as well. The Brave Axe can be utilized for doubling the number of her attacks when she initiates combat, while the Tomahawk is for throwing from a distance. The Ukonvasara is an amazing weapon but can only reach its potential when Goldmary’s build is over 24. It’s a very heavy weapon with a great payoff.
Gifting is perfect for any character — to both heighten stats and to unlock unique character dialogue. Each character has specific favorites and dislikes, so you’ll want to avoid gifting Goldmary something she doesn’t like.
She has a large list of favorites. Goldmary doesn’t have many dislikes. She won’t like the fancy dagger or training weights. Her interests are aimed at cuter things and the arts. Every character will like the Spirit Gem regardless of preference.
