In older Fire Emblem Titles, reclassing options such as Second Seals were not available since characters were meant to be played in the class they had when introduced. Starting in New Mystery and truly opening up in Awakening, reclassing units to completely different class lines became a staple of the series. Since characters were no longer stuck in their base class, growth rates became far more manipulable. In Fire Emblem: Engage, multiple units seem to be tailor-made for enterprising players to realize their potential in other classes. Clanne, joining your team in Chapter 2 at level 1 alongside his sister, is a fantastic example.
If you wish for Clanne to fulfill his dreams of remaining by the Divine Dragon’s side, he will require special attention to reach his potential. Without the correct strategies he will end up disappointing the player, but with proper care, he will spread the Divine Dragon Fan Club far and wide! Oh, and defeat Sombron…
Growth Rates
At first glance, most players will notice something wrong with Clanne’s stats. He joins your army as a Mage, yet possesses one of the most pitifully low magic growths in the game. On the contrary, Clanne’s Strength is well above average, especially for a unit with so much Speed growth. His Dexterity, Defense, and Resistance are quite good as well, leaving him looking like a powerful physical unit.
Unfortunately, he also ties in for the title of lowest HP growth, though since he starts at level 1, he will have plenty of opportunities to make up for this deficiency. With luck, Clanne should scale into a Strength and Speed focused attacker, bolstered by passable Defense and Resistance. Ideally, he will not be hampered too much by his low HP and build, but he may require a few stat items to get the best results.

Best Classes
Though Clanne has many options to begin his journey from Mage to physical attacker, Lance Fighter is a strong option since he will likely end up utilizing spears. Spears are lighter than axes, and have access to a ranged option very early in Javelins. If you want to focus more on Speed while giving up some Defense, then Sword Fighter is also a great choice. Scaling into the late game, Clanne will favor any of Halberdier, Swordmaster, Warrior, or even Wyvern Knight. Each option has its benefits, so you should choose primarily based on your intended team makeup, as well as Clanne’s luck in Build growth.
Best Weapons
Since Clanne has so many class choices, it is difficult to recommend specific weapons outside the usual contenders. Javelins and Hand Axes are always fantastic, and his high Dexterity makes killer weapons an enticing option. Refined versions of these weapons can allow for high damage, consistent doubles and the ability to either snag frequent crits or counterattack ranged opponents. When choosing weapons, keep in mind that you will likely need to account for Clanne’s low Build, though like HP he will have plenty of chances to grab those all-important points.
Best Emblem Rings
Like any versatile physical attacker with low Build, Clanne will want to consider engaging with Leif as he provides incredible utility and stats, in addition to his large array of weapons. High Speed, Dexterity, and Vantage can also produce risky, though powerful effects. If Clanne has been unlucky with HP level-ups, Ike can help mitigate damage taken when faced with multiple enemies, and Roy can perform miracles with his Hold Out skill.
Mounted builds should consider Sigurd thanks to his incredible mobility and positioning skills, as well as bonus damage thanks to Momentum. Finally, Lyn is the ultimate partner for Speed focused attackers, providing defense against counterattacks with Alacrity, more speed thanks to Speedtaker, and both range and set-up with her Call Doubles and Astra Storm engage skills.
Best Skills
When selecting skills to inherit, Clanne should prioritize consistent doubles and protecting himself from counterattacks. In addition to Lyn’s skills, he should consider Canter for mobility, Build+3 for better weapon variety, and for especially frail builds, Hold Out for survivability.
