It is easy to feel inferior to others sometimes. Whether they are more popular, more talented, or even just more confident, it doesn’t take much to look at someone else’s life and think “I wish I had what they have.” At the end of the day, you should turn that yearning into a motivation, not a complaint. Also, be thankful you do not live in the world of Fire Emblem. In a world where combat is decided by stats and levels, some characters can be strictly better than others, and no level of motivation can change that.
Fortunately for him, Alcryst from Fire Emblem: Engage does not need to worry about being inferior to anyone, though he will need some help believing it. Joining your army in Chapter 7, the Second Prince of Brodia has exclusive access to one of the most powerful skills in the game. With the right investment and encouragement, (someone please give this boy a hug) he will be a huge boon in your battles against Sombron.
Growth Rates
Alcryst possesses a solid stat line for an offensive unit, with good Strength, high Speed, and Dexterity, and passable Defense and HP. These growths are further bolstered by his base class’s incredible +25% dexterity growth, putting him in competition for the highest in the game. While he may possess only an average base Build stat, the bows he wields are relatively light, making this a non-issue. He also has a decent Build growth at 10%, making him even more likely to ignore the weight penalty on all but the heaviest of bows.

Best Classes
Like his brother Diamant, there is little need for discussion when it comes to class options. Alcryst’s personal class Tireur d’élite not only further increases the solid growths provided by his base class, but gives him access to Luna. Luna allows Alcryst’s attack to ignore half of the opponent’s Def/Res, with a trigger chance equal to his Dexterity. With his stellar base Dexterity of 17 and his amazing growths, he will likely be activating the skill 1/4 of the time as soon as he unlocks it. Combined with his high speed, he will frequently activate the skill, giving him deceptively high damage output, especially as a bow unit. Other class options are available, but Alcryst’s skill is powerful enough that if you are not taking advantage of it, you are likely better off choosing other characters for such roles.
Best Weapons
With Alcryst’s decent Build stat and the generally low weight of bows, he will have plenty to choose from. You should keep him equipped with a Steel/Silver Bow and a Longbow for general use, with refinements and engravements as you see fit. The Killer Bow accentuates Alcryst’s naturally high crit rate, which combined with Luna can create incredible damage output. On the topic of Luna, the Brave Bow allows for more activation chances, especially against slower targets. While the Radiant Bow is powerful, Alcryst’s low Magic means it is not a necessity. Nevertheless, if the map ahead features many armored units, it may be worth equipping.
Best Emblem Rings
Like many units in Engage, Alcryst greatly enjoys being paired with Lyn. Alacrity and Speedtaker allow him to outpace already quick units while avoiding retaliation. Furthermore, Astra Storm helps pad Alcryst’s poor mobility by allowing him to attack up to 20 spaces away. While Lyn provides extra Speed, Eirika lets Alcryst increase his damage output with Lunar Brace. Combined with Luna, Alcryst can ignore 70% of a foe’s defense, making even armored targets quiver in fear. Finally, Lucina provides a nice boost to Dexterity, allowing for more Luna activations. Dual assist also gives Alcryst the chance to chain attack enemies within his range, especially powerful on a ranged unit.
Best Skills
As mentioned above, Lyn’s skills work amazingly on a fast archer like Alcryst, and are well worth the SP Cost if Lyn is paired with someone else. Dex+ allows for more Luna activations, while Canter lets Alcryst reposition after combat. Finally, Perceptive is a nice budget option for extra safety on initiation.
