Finally, Final Fantasy XVI confirms the final plans to finally release a PC version. And two paid DLC as well!

Final Fantasy XVI Confirms DLC and PC Port in the Works

A small gathering of people called PAX West 2023 happened over the weekend, in which there were tons of panels and presentations for all things video games (including a Baldur’s Gate 3 Mind Flayer who was flaying things). One welcome guest (via video) was the producer of Final Fantasy XVI and XIV, the legendary Naoki Yoshida.

Final Fantasy XVI - Main Cast

His speech confirmed a few things. First, a small title update for Final Fantasy XVI. Second, the team is working on updates, DLC, and the PC version.

Update 1.10 for Final Fantasy XVI

The game received a minor update in the hours right after the presentation. There isn’t much in terms of new content, however, there are some cosmetic things to look forward to. The patch makes a new “Appearance” feature available in the players’ Arete Stone in their hideaway. Initially, there are three new outfits. Clive gets a stylish new “Burnt Black” armor set and Jill Warrick trades in her muted blue for a Snow White dress.

Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite doggo, Torgal, finds himself in some new mystical Icy Blue fur. Out of all three costumes, Torgal’s has the most drastic changes as it modifies his look entirely. Apparently, there are also alternate looks for Ambrosia and Joshua, though they weren’t included in the teaser footage.

Aside from this, Clive also gets a transmog system for his sword. Essentially the option allows you to change the look of your blade into any previously unlocked weapon while retaining your stats. Players will need to get to a certain point in the story to be able to access this feature, both in a normal game as well as in New Game+.

The Upcoming Excitement

Yoshi-P also announced that the team is currently working on two major things: two new DLCs for Final Fantasy XVI as well as a PC version (which is no surprise to anyone). The announcement of DLC recants the team’s previous comment that there were no plans to expand the game further, back in May 2023.

Yoshida does mention that the decision came about from the various fan reactions, opinions, and requests. The most resounding bit of feedback was that players adored the world of Valishtea, and wanted to see more within. There are no concrete plans yet on what the expansions will be about, except that the team is “working on it”.

We also get a full confirmation that a Final Fantasy XVI PC version is in development, despite the producer dampening the hope for the platform. This definitely wasn’t a well-kept secret as the initial trailer footage included both the PlayStation 5 and PC logos before they were quickly removed. There was also mention that the game would be a PlayStation exclusive for “at least 6 months”. Since we’re over 2 months since the initial launch, perhaps fans of the series only need to wait for 4 months before we get to explore the world on a PC?

A Bit of a Cooldown

Yoshi-P also notes that he is not ready to share any more information and specifics for both the PC release as well as the DLC. He does note that there will hopefully be more news before the end of the year. Yoshida, you have three months!

While we wait, we have the rest of the updates via Final Fantasy XVI patch 1.10. Some highlights of this include faster activation of Eikon abilities after parries, easier aerial combos on smaller foes, adds ability cooldown times in the Ability Menu, adds the ability to change some of Torgal’s behavior, and updated how scores are calculated in the game’s Arcade mode.

Aside from the highlights, expect the usual bug fixes and other optimizations added in, for good measure.

The Final Fantasy?

We at Fextralife reviewed Final Fantasy XVI extremely positively, giving it an overall score of 9.3. It was able to bring out some modern ARPG elements and mix them in with the DNA that makes Final Fantasy special. Be sure to check out our Final Fantasy XVI Review as well as our Beginner Guide. Fans seem to agree as well, as the title surpassed 3 million copies sold as of June 29, a hefty feat considering that it is currently only available on the PlayStation 5.
