Square Enix highlighted the upcoming Final Fantasy 16 DLC after weeks of teasing, and it looks like everyone’s expectations were right on the money. Creative Business Unit 3 is releasing two rounds of Final Fantasy 16 DLC, despite originally saying even one expansion was unlikely and while combat is the first one’s core, the second focuses on Valisthea’s past – The Fallen and, as fans guessed, the story of Leviathan’s fall.
Echoes of the Fallen is the combat-focused package, and it’s out now. Rising Tide launches in spring 2024 and covers the Leviathan arc.
Leviathan featured in an important piece of in-game artwork and remained conspicuous in his complete absence, the only Eikon and Dominant who had seemingly died without being reborn. The Fallen, in true RPG fashion, were responsible for the ruins and old airships Clive and co. explore throughout Final Fantasy 16.
The DLC will cover events that take place before the final battle against Ultima, Also included is Omega, a recurring monster and superboss that shows up in several Final Fantasy games, including FFXIV and Clive voice actor Ben Starr’s favorite, Final Fantasy 8.
There’s still no word about the Final Fantasy 16 port, though producer Naoki Yoshida did say the development would take a while for that port.
