Cathy’s been feeling extremely angry and depressed in Emmerdale, with doctor Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) prescribing her the contraceptive pill.

While the pill has eased her heavy periods, her mood swings continued and arguably worsened. 

She’s started drinking heavily and everyone around her struggled to cope as they feared she would snap at them 

It’s believed she is suffering from an extreme form of PMS called Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder which could affect the youngster for decades. 

The diagnosis knocked Cathy sideways in recent weeks and her father Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) has been impacted by her change in behaviour too.

His efforts to support Cathy have fallen on deaf ears and often make matters worse. 

She recently learned she will not be granted access to arrangements for additional support at school until she gets a formal diagnosis. 

Her head teacher suggested she defers a year, but the teenager is strongly against the idea.

In upcoming scenes, her father tries to comfort Cathy but gets caught in the firing line when she accidentally cut his face with her house keys in a moment of rage. 

Once she calms down, a loving Bob tries to reassure her things will get better, but she then unveils her plans to leave the Yorkshire Dales. 

ITV soap spoilers have revealed she assures Bob he has been the best father possible by letting her go.

After their emotional moment, everyone says a tearful goodbye to Cathy as she leaves Emmerdale. 

Will she return or is she leaving the village and its residents behind for good?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
