FromSoftware has confirmed that a brand new Elden Ring update will be released tomorrow, finally introducing the long-rumored PvP mode. The new Colosseum update will be available for free on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on December 7th.

“The Colosseums of Limgrave, Leyndell and Caelid will open their gates, allowing players to engage in battles such as duels, free-for-alls and team fights”, reads the official description for the update trailer.

Players had suspected that a new PvP update for Elden Ring was on the horizon when a leak emerged earlier this year. Lance McDonald, an Elden Ring data miner, was able to access one of the locked colosseums earlier this year, sparking hope that they would one day be accessible in-game as part of a new PvP mode.

Bandai Namco has yet to confirm exactly what time the update will be released, but based on previous patch updates, it’s likely that server maintenance will begin at approximately 12AM PT. The new trailer, which can be seen below, shows a snippet of some of the new colosseums in action ahead of their arrival tomorrow.

Elden Ring’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, recently stated in a new interview that he does not look at user feedback regarding Elden Ring, as he believes it could have too much of an influence over his decision-making with future titles. Considering Elden Ring is a nominee for game of the year at this year’s Game Awards, Miyazaki could be on to something.

Elden Ring is a fan favorite to take home the game of the year award at the Game Awards, which will be streamed live from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles this Thursday, December 8th. There’s some strong competition though, as fellow nominees for game of the year include God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Fans can vote for their game of the year via the official Game Awards website. Don’t forget to watch the ceremony live on December 8th from 4:30PM PT.
