EastEnders fans might remember Danny Mitchell, but the actor behind the Mitchell character has taken a very different path in life now as a yoga instructor.

Danny (played by Liam Bergin) showed up in Walford as Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) and Roxy Mitchell’s (Rita Simmons) estranged half-brother.

He made his debut on the BBC soap in 2010 when he gatecrashed Archie Mitchell’s (Larry Lamb) funeral, where he announced he was Archie’s son.

It later emerged he wasn’t Archie’s son but was related to the Mitchell sisters through their mum, Glenda Mitchell (Glynis Barber), making his their half-brother.

The former actor has ventured far from the Square and now works in a completely different field.

Despite returning to the soap in guest stints in 2016 and 2017, Liam now teaches yoga.

His Instagram account is full of snaps of the 37-year-old in impressing yoga stretches, meeting other yoga teachers and embracing the lifestyle.

A recent picture of him performing a flying pigeon pose was captioned: “One day I won’t be able to do this pose anymore. While I can, I’m gona show off about it. Loose the ego Liam. What did you say, USE the ego? Yea, use the ego.” (sic)

Another post made during the pandemic promoted his own yoga classes read: “Free insta live yoga throughout lockdown. It will be avaliable on my igtv if you cant make it live.

“Huge thank you to @auraorganicsspa who are allowing me to film in their beautiful studio.

“Please spread the word. The more the merrier. Let’s breath and move through this together. All levels welcome.”

An older post shows him with the late June Brown, who played Dot Cotton on the soap for a total of 31 years.

In a smiley snap next to the soap icon, Liam wrote: “Me and my mate Dot. Honestly though, working with this legend was such a privilege. Might retire now. Again.”

Sadly, since Danny said goodbye to Albert Square, Ronnie and Roxy met a tragic death.

The iconic sisters died after jumping into a pool and getting caught up in Ronnie’s wedding dress, which weighed them down and ultimately drowned them.

EastEnders continues on Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
