Dread Templar receives final Early Access update ahead of full release

So far, developer T19 Games’ red-tinted first-person shooter Dread Templar has remained in Early Access for over a year. Inspired by old-school ’90s shooters such as QuakeDread Templar managed to achieve a “very positive” rating on Steam out of nearly 400 user reviews. Clearly the game does more than simply remind you of the good old days. Fans of Dread Templar will soon have the opportunity to try out the full release later this year, but in the meantime, you can check out the final Early Access content update that T19 Games just dropped.

This update allows players to hone their skills in a whole new way thanks to the addition of Guardian Mode. This endless survival mode tasks the player with defending a blue crystal against waves of dangerous foes until either the player dies or the crystal ends up destroyed. As players defeats enemies and progresses through any given run, they will earn currency that can be spent on power-ups, supplies, or health refills for either themselves or the crystal.

What will the final game have?

Dread Templar is set to leave Early Access soon, so now is tehe time to learn what kinds of features the full release will implement into the experience. Fortunately, a forum post from last year detailing the game’s Early Access roadmap highlights exactly this. Additional enemies, bosses, and puzzles are just a few of the elements that will feature in the final version.

Unless the developers’ plans have changed since then, the forum post says that the full game will arrive this coming October. Until then, though, fans can jump into the final Early Access update for Dread Templar and see how far they can get in Guardian Mode. Currently, the game costs $14.99 USD, so those who haven’t tried it out yet can do so without hurting their wallet much.
