Dragon’s Dogma 10th anniversary site rekindles hope for a sequel

0

Capcom has unveiled a 10th anniversary website for Dragon’s Dogma, once more reminding fans that a sequel doesn’t exist. At least, not yet. The website certainly wasn’t expected, and fans of the 2012 fantasy game have begun to buzz like bees once more. Capcom has mentioned before that a sequel was on the horizon, but an announcement never came. The company may be hinting that this is about to change, however.

Of course, it could also mean that Capcom is merely celebrating its RPG masterwork, and nothing more. Regardless, fans over at the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit are clamoring over the website and talking about a sequel again. Eyes have been cast on the official Twitter account for Dragon’s Dogma, which, curiously enough, offers a slight wink.

“Ten years ago, the mighty Dragon, Grigori, sealed a fateful pact with Arisen with the release of Dragon’s Dogma,” the message reads. “As we look to the future, we’ll also reflect on ten years of endless adventures, and we’re inviting you to join the celebration!”

Interesting. The tidbit about looking “to the future” certainly has some weight behind it. Perhaps Dragon’s Dogma 2 isn’t such a shot in the dark.

Back on the horse

Fans have waited for a Dragon’s Dogma 2 for a whole decade. Since its launch, the game received an expansion called Dark Arisen, as well as an animated show on Netflix. We’ve speculated what a sequel could bring to the table, and what can be changed for the better. And that was a couple years ago now. Still, no news until today. But it seems like there’s hope.

The website includes a message from the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, thanking the fans. Itsuno, who went on to continue the Devil May Cry series, also left a message on Twitter that adds some fuel to the fire. After thanking folks for the 10th anniversary, he writes: “I look forward to working with you!”

Will Dragon’s Dogma finally become the “major franchise” Capcom promised us a decade ago? It’s hard to say, but all this teasing must amount to something in the future. Let’s hope it isn’t a 20th anniversary website.
