Does the new Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 update add a third-person mode?

0

When Cyberpunk 2077 came out nearly three years ago, there was one thing most people requested. That’s right, a third-person mode, which frankly isn’t surprising. Most Western RPGs allow you to either switch between first and third-person or take place entirely in that latter perspective. But Cyberpunk 2077 decided to focus on letting you play directly through V’s perspective. However, with the massive 2.0 update, let’s finally answer whether Cyberpunk 2077 has a third-person mode after all this time.

Cyberpunk 2077: Is there a third-person mode

The short answer for whether Cyberpunk 2077 has a third-person mode is, unfortunately, a no. The game still has you mostly playing through the eyes of V instead of with a disembodied camera behind them. This might be disappointing to some but remember that Cyberpunk 2077 is designed to be an immersive experience. You’re supposed to embody V in more ways than one and the perspective reinforces that fact.

Now that doesn’t mean the game is entirely first-person. Vehicles still have a toggle that lets you view them from a third-person perspective. Before you say it, I know that this feature sort of disproves my point about immersion just now. But let’s be honest, driving in first-person sometimes just doesn’t feel right. This is especially true for vehicles that have narrow fields of view. Let’s also not forget that it’s easy to get a little motion-sick if the ride gets a bit bumpy.

But as for the future of Cyberpunk 2077, we have to consider if CD Projekt Red would ever implement a third-person mode. This is extremely unlikely as that would be a massive undertaking. It’s also worth mentioning that Phantom Liberty is the only big expansion coming to Cyberpunk 2077. So the possibility of the developer making a completely new camera mode is both unlikely and unfeasible. Now that doesn’t discount the possibility of future games in this series having a third-person mode. And given how requested it’s been, it’s likely that CD Projekt Red will bear it in mind. For now, though, you’re stuck to playing Cyberpunk 2077 in first person.
