Diablo IV Release Date Rumored To Be Pushed Back

The leaker says that Diablo IV’s release date is questionable.

New rumors have surfaced online pointing towards a rescheduling for Diablo IV’s release date. According to the new rumor, Blizzard’s long-in-the-works RPG is in “rough shape” and its June 6 release date is “questionable.”

Blizzard announced the release date of Diablo IV during The Game Awards and confirmed that it would open the doors of Sanctuary once it launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on June 6. A decade after the third mainline entry in the series, Diablo 4 is officially near completion and prepares to set a foothold across multiple platforms. At least, that’s what we thought before the new rumor cast doubt and claimed that the game will not be ready for the previously establihed launch date.

The claim comes from Horns, a Resetera user who previously accurately leaked Tango Gameworks’ new rhythm-action game Hi-Fi Rush before it was announced and released on the same day. According to their new comments on the forum, the leaker does not have confidence in the game’s targeted launch date.

Horns also touched on the release windows of other games, like Arcane’s vampire-shooter Redfall and Bethesda’s long-awaited space RPG Starfield. “Microsoft has lost a great sum of money on Azure,” says Horns in their comment, so in order to make up for the loss, the tech colossus wants other divisions to cut costs, which explains why it slashed 10,000 jobs earlier this month. That’s probably why it also wants to roll out some of the games even though they still need some quality control, they postulate. “Bethesda wants more time with Starfield and if they get their way, Starfield will come in fall 2023,” said the leaker.

Horns does not say much about the current state of Diablo IV, other than questioning its release date. And it is worth noting that Blizzard has not made any new announcements about the game’s release, which means that the game giant is still gunning for an April 2023 launch. On the other hand, history demands that we should be wary when it comes to Blizzard and its titles that are still under development.

In other Diablo IV news, back in December, the game’s QA testers voted to unionize against Blizzard and added to the ongoing controversies. Moreover, some of the testers who got their hands on Diablo IV were quite fast to break their nondisclosure agreements and leaked the footage from the game too. There is little doubt that there will be more of these events as we come closer — hopefully — to the release of one of the most anticipated games of the decade.
