Weapons in Diablo 3 come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Ranging from 1-Handed Daggers to 2-Handed Maces, the arsenal that Sanctuary has is vast and broad. Finding and equipping the best weapons can have the biggest impact on your damage and allow you to navigate through the depths of the darkness.
Many items in Sanctuary are class-specific, making them unable to be equipped on all other characters. For the purposes of this list, no class-specific items have been included to highlight the most versatile Main-Hand and Off-Hand items in the game. These are the best Legendary pieces to equip, give to your follower, or extract into Kanai’s Cube.
10 Freeze Of Deflection
If you’ve hired the Templar as your Follower to provide extra protection and frontline support, the best shield you can give him is the Freeze of Deflection. This Off-Hand item can roll with a 20% Chance to Block, a perfect stat for the Templar and for the item’s powerful Secondary ability.
The major advantage of the Freeze of Deflection is the chance to Freeze attackers when blocking an attack. This Secondary ability gives your Follower a huge boost of crowd control and damage mitigation. If you’re running with the Templar, this is an easy-to-find, best-in-slot shield.
9 Cluckeye
Although the Cluckeye isn’t a great item to equip on your character class, it’s the perfect choice for a Scoundrel. With decent Magic Damage and a large boost to Dexterity, the Cluckeye isn’t a bad damage dealer. But the real benefit to using a Cluckeye comes from its ability to cluck.
With a 25-50% chance to cluck when attacking, Cluckeye launches a chicken out of its bow flying toward the target with 500% weapon damage and confusing it for 2 seconds. This effect provides amazing crowd control, making Cluckeye a fantastic Scoundrel weapon.
8 Thunderfury, Blessed Blade Of The Windseeker
Making its way over from World of Warcraft is the legendary Thunderfury, Blessed Blade Of The Windseeker. The best-in-slot Main Hand for the Templar, this 1-Handed Sword is also great for any melee class that’s still looking for their own best-in-slot weapon.
Thunderfury has a chance to blast up to 5 targets with Lightning, reducing their attack and movement speed by 30%. This tremendous ability to debuff enemies makes Thunderfury great for the Templar, but it lacks the power necessary to recommend it as your Main Hand weapon.
7 Pig Sticker
The Pig Sticker deals an extra 15-30% Damage to Beasts and Humans – ‘slaughtering man and beat alike’. This extra damage can come in handy in certain circumstances, but the Random Magical Properties are what make this dagger special.
With an ability to roll 5 additional Random Magic Properties, the Pig Sticker is unique in its ability to roll stats. No other weapons match the pure opportunity of a Pig Sticker, perfect in the hands of frontline characters that can use a stat stick with high attack speed.
6 Azurewrath
Undead and Demon enemies are so scared of an Azurewrath that they take 500-650% weapon damage as Holy every second when one is nearby. Sometimes knocking enemies into the air and a chance to Freeze them on hit, the Azurewrath has a ton of damage and utility.
This 1-Handed Sword also deals Cold Damage on hit and provides the wielder with 15-20% additional Cold Skill damage. A Frenzy Barbarian with Berserk (Frenzy’s damage is turned into Cold damage) becomes a massive damage dealer with a lot of crowd control when it equips an Azurewrath.
5 Echoing Fury
For classes that benefit from Increased Attack Speed, having an Echoing Fury equipped can decimate your foes. By slaying enemies with an Echoing Fury, the wielder becomes engulfed into a Frenzy – massively increasing attack speed and movement speed.
Echoing Fury is a perfect weapon for characters that rely on maximizing their Attack Speed to benefit from per-hit abilities. Leveraging the Attack Speed benefits is how you get the most out of this item. This 1-Handed Mace relies on its solid damage and huge gains from Frenzy.
4 Stormshield
With great stats and tremendous defensive capabilities, the Stormshield is a solid shield for nearly any situation. If you’re having trouble with survivability and your build allows for a shield, a Stormshield can be the solution to your worries.
The main component of a Stormshield is the reduction of melee attacks by 25-30%, but the additional Magic Properties take the item to the next level. With the ability to roll All Resistances, Cooldown Reduction, or other helpful Properties, the Stormshield is a total package for an Off-Hand stat stick.
3 In-geom
Having an In-geom can come in handy in several different situations. Every class can benefit from either equipping an In-geom or having it extracted in their Kanai’s Cube. With an In-geom, your skills are reduced by 8-10 seconds for 15 seconds after killing an elite pack.
Particularly useful in Rifts, this weapon is a top candidate for classes to use in their Cube’s weapon slot as it is universally helpful. Regardless of your class build, having your cooldowns shortened means that you can do more damage or survive longer.
2 Messerschmidt’s Reaver
Similar to In-geom, Messerschmidt’s Reaver is an ideal item to extract into the Kanai’s Cube weapon slot. This 2-Handed Axe reduces the remaining cooldown of one of your skills by 1 second whenever you kill an enemy. While tearing through enemies with a Messerschmidt’s Reaver, your spells will be off cooldown with unprecedented speed.
This Secondary stat is amazing when speed-farming Rifts or Bounties, reducing your cooldowns every time you get a kill. Generally, not a candidate to use in your active item weapon slot, Messerschmidt’s Reaver is a best-in-slot Kanai’s Cube option for some builds and top tier for all others.
1 The Furnace
If you don’t have or don’t need a Messerschmidt’s Reaver, extracting The Furnace in your Kanai’s Cube is a fantastic option. This Legendary 2-Handed Mace is the most versatile weapon in Diablo 3 because it increases damage against elites by 40-50%.
All classes can benefit from the extra damage to elites, as they are the most dangerous monsters in the Diablo 3 end game. Whether you’re speed-farming Rifts or pushing Greater Rifts, The Furnace can be a huge damage boost against the mobs that matter.
