A Dexter prequel series–Dexter: Original Sin–in the works, and now three of its leads have been announced, including the actor who will play a young Dexter Morgan.

Variety reports that 29-year-old Irish actor Patrick Gibson (The OA, Shadow and Bone) will play a young Dexter, with Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) playing his adoptive father, Harry. Molly Brown (Senior Year), meanwhile, will play Dexter’s sister, Debra. On the original show, these roles were played by Michael C. Hall, James Remar, and Jennifer Carpenter, respectively.

The prequel series, which has 10 episodes, is set in 1991, which is 15 years before the events of the original Dexter series. The show will follow young Dexter as he transitions in his life from student to “avenging serial killer.”

“When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcements’ radar,” reads a line from the show’s description. “This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Dexter fans may be happy to know that Clyde Phillips, Dexter’s original showrunner, is coming back for this new series, as is Hall in an executive producer role.

Original Sin is just the latest Dexter spin-off, following 2021’s Dexter: New Blood. This show picked up after the events of Dexter and the story involved Dexter and his son doing what they do best.

In other news about Dexter, the original Showtime series is coming to Netflix on June 19 in its entirety. There is no word yet on a premiere date for Dexter: Original Sin.
