Motive Studio and Electronic Arts have released the first official gameplay trailer for the Dead Space Remake, giving players their first look at the graphics created using the Frostbite Engine.

The first gameplay trailer shows off new gameplay mechanics, such as the peeling system and the intensify director, that will be introduced with EA Motive’s Dead Space Remake. The peeling system allows necromorphs to have layered flesh, tendons, and bones that break, tear, and shatter in new ways. They have been rebuilt using this system, and their gruesome appearance will cause trouble.

The intensify director, on the other hand, allows players to ‘feel the weight of every step Isaac takes’, adjusting environmental effects such as light, smoke, particles, and sounds. Necromorph spawns will also be adjusted with the intensify director. According to the developer team, it will provide feedback on the mental and physical state based on Isaac’s stress level.

As seen in the trailer above, instead of embracing a new aesthetic, Electronic Arts will remain faithful to the original game’s atmospheric theme. The remake version has been rebuilt using the Frostbite Engine to ensure a bug-free and steady frame rate. Electronic Arts unveiled that Dead Space Remake will feature newly-added narrative elements, expanding its story beyond Isaac and USG Ishimura. The remake version includes enhanced audio and crisp that completely immerses you in its netherworld while maintaining the visual fidelity of the original series.

Loading screens and camera cuts will also be a thing of the past, to ensure a fluid action experience in Ishumura’s tight corridors and lengthy hallways. EA Motive claimed that Ishimura will feature new rooms and routes to explore, offering new UI map controls and an improved locator. Last but not least, Isaac can defend himself against Necromorphs by using engineering tools as a weapon when needed.

Dead Space Remake will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on February 23rd, 2023. Speaking to IGN, Creative Director at EA Motive, Roman-Campos Orolia, said the remake version won’t have any microtransactions, and all assets, including visual, sound, and gameplay, will be rebuilt for the planned platforms above.
