Dead Cells developer’s Windblown blows us away while we wait for Hades 2

Motion Twin, the indie studio that made Dead Cells (which if you haven’t played, you need to go play — it’s one of my favorite roguelikes) is making a fast-paced, isometric, single-player and co-op, action roguelike that’s giving me Hades 2 vibes. If you’re looking for a beautifully deep game to devour while we wait for more Hades 2 news, Windblown is the ticket.

What is Windblown?

To me, Windblown looks like if Hades and Skylanders had a baby. It’s quick, it’s colorful, it’s challenging. And if you’re familiar with Motion Twin’s work on Dead Cells, you already know Windblown is a roguelike with several creative builds to chase, made unique through weapons, trinkets, gifts, and even fish. Oh, and it has up to three-player co-op!

A Windblown gameplay trailer was recently released. Check it out for yourself!

When is the Windblown release date?

Doesn’t that look excellent? As you can see at the end of the trailer, Windblown will be released in Early Access in 2024. It says that it’ll release on Steam but I’d guess the game will come to all consoles once it gets its full release — crossing my fingers that the Early Access doesn’t last too long. Hades 2 is also said to be released in Early Access in 2024, but we haven’t heard anything from Supergiant Games since the reveal trailer in 2022.

While I would probably still be excited about Windblown even if it was being made by a developer I didn’t know, the fact that it’s being made by Motion Twin gives me hope that Windblown won’t only look fantastic but it’ll also play great. Dead Cells is a game that refuses to die — it just got a Castlevania DLC last year — and I hope Windblown will get the same treatment.

Does Windblown have co-op?

Possibly the best part about Windblown is you can play it with up to two friends. Since all my friends love Hades, I’ve certainly had the thought that it would be cool if all of us could play it together. Of course, I’ll enjoy Windblown single-player, but I’m also very excited to play it with my friends.
