D&D, LOTR, and more book deals at Amazon and Target

If you’re looking to add some books to your nerd-centric sundry, or you’re shopping for some last-minute gifts for the holidays, you’ll want to check out the collection of literature currently on sale at Amazon and Target. Some of our favorite books from the past year and some personal selections are discounted by 20% or more, including The Lord of the Rings Illustrated Edition, The Mysteries, Dungeons & Dragons Art & Arcana, and many more.

While many of the items on sale at Target require a Target Circle club membership, signing up is free and will grant you a blanket 20% discount on eligible books. At Amazon, a great selection of books is already discounted, but many are eligible for even greater discounts when you clip an on-page coupon. We’ve highlighted a number of our favorites below, but you can head to the respective landing pages for Amazon and Target for a full list of what’s on sale.


  • The Core Rulebook for Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition is on sale at Target for $26.10 (was $49.95). You can also find the Special Edition Boxed Set of Dungeons & Dragons Art & Arcana on sale at Amazon for $62.52 (was $125). The standard version of the hardcover art book is also available for $26.13 (was $50).
  • A hardcover, leather-bound box set of the Game of Thrones saga is on sale for $61.97 at Target (was $85).
  • If you’re planning to walk into Mordor, a map might help. The illustrated version of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are currently discounted to their lowest price ever on Amazon. Normally $74.99 each, The Lord of the Rings is on sale for around $27, while The Hobbit is available for around $39.

Each single-volume hardcover includes thirty color illustrations, maps, and sketches (all produced by the author) sprinkled throughout along with removable, fold-out maps of Frodo and Bilbo’s journeys through Middle-earth produced by Tolkien’s son, Christopher.

  • If you prefer your Lord of the Rings without illustrations, you can find a discounted boxed set of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit on Amazon for $13.85 (was $35.96).
  • Target is currently discounting the three-book boxed set of Frank Herbert’s Dune Saga to $16.28 (was $30.97).
  • If playing through Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has left you wanting for more stories from Night City, you’re in luck. Normally $39.99, you can pick up the 192-page illustrated World of Cyberpunk 2077 for around $18 when you use the on-page coupon at Amazon.
  • If you’ve ever wanted to know what Displacer Beast tastes like, now’s your chance. Heroes’ Feast Flavors of the Multiverse, the official D&D Cookbook, is discounted to $26.24 at Amazon (was $35). You can also pick up the official cookbook for Magic: The Gathering, Cuisines of the Multiverse at Amazon for $28.79 when you clip the on-page coupon (was $39.99).
  • Video Game of the Year by author Jordan Minor doesn’t just highlight the best games of the past 40 years, it’s a crash course on the cultural impact of gaming and its history. The 296-page chronicle is currently available to from Amazon for $20.99 (was $27.99).
