Danmachi Season 4 finally got a release date and a trailer teasing Water City and the Labyrinth arc.
Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon, shortened to DanMachi by using its original Japanese name, is one of the many fantasy anime of this past decade, and one of the few popular enough to get more and more seasons. Originally a light novel written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda, Danmachi got incredibly popular when its first anime season aired in 2015. One of the many reasons for the show’s success, besides its quality, was how the ribbon outfit of Hestia, Danmachi‘s flagship Heroine, became a cosplay and fanart sensation on Twitter.
Now, the fourth season of the anime, first announced back in January 2021, finally has a release date.

Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon Season 4 will start airing on July 22, 2022. You can check out the new trailer for the season below. This new season will cover the labyrinth and water city arc which starts at volume 12 of the original novel. The novel is officially published in the US up to volume 16 (volume 17 in Japan), so the biggest fans already know what’s going to happen.
Should you Get into Danmachi?
Short answer is yes. It’s a pretty good fantasy series and if you’re prone to FOMO, you can catch up before season 4 starts with the official subs on Crunchyroll. I’d guess the biggest reason why newcomers would want to try out Danmachi is obviously its character design by Suzuhito Yasuda. If so then I highly recommend checking out the other works by Yasuda, most notably Yozakura Quartet.
Yasuda is far from only being a character designer (Digimon Cyber Sleuth, Gundam Build Fighters, Devil Survivor) and light novel illustrator (Durarara, Danmachi). He’s originally a mangaka. So if you like his style, I can’t recommend enough his long-running shonen manga Yozakura Quartet. Personally speaking, I believe it’s one of the true successors of the 90s shonen golden era, and after over 15 years since its launch in 2006, YZQ has only gotten better and bigger.
It’s really impressive how Yasuda Suzuhito just keeps adding characters pretty much every new arc, without making older characters irrelevant, while keeping such a high level of characterization, storytelling, cool fights, and abilities.
