Coronation Street’s Gemma Winter ‘completely devastated’ by heartbreaking news | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

After having a bike accident earlier this year, Paul (played by Peter Ash) started to notice some concerning symptoms such as struggling to grip with his hand.

Following a series of tests, Paul was officially diagnosed with MND at the end of April as Coronation Street fans saw him break down in Dee-Dee Bailey’s (Channique Sterling-Brown) car.

Although he has the support of his friend, viewers have seen him keep his diagnosis a secret from his family and partner Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank).

His diagnosis comes as his twin sister Gemma (Dolly Rose Campbell) is busy preparing for her wedding to Chesney Brown (Sam Aston).
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk and other media publications, actress Dolly revealed how Gemma will react once she learns about Paul’s diagnosis.

She said: “Obviously, she’s going to be completely devastated because Paul’s been there her whole life.

“They’re not just brother and sister, they’re twins so they’ve been together their whole lives.

“I think her approach would be to stay strong. They are a bit of an out there family, but at the heart, they do love each other.

“They stick together and they want what’s best for each other. So I’m sure they will look after him in their own way absolutely.”

Over the past few weeks, fans of the ITV soap have seen Paul struggle to use his hand to grip, a common symptom of MND.

However, it seems to be going unnoticed by those closest to him, which Dolly admits is down to how hectic his sister’s life is.

She continued: “Paul’s very stubborn and he wants everything to be his way.

“He doesn’t want to be seen as we keep those who want to offload it all on the family.

“So he’s doing a good job of hiding it, but on top of that Gemma’s life is so hectic with her family and her work and all her worries.

“I don’t think it is just the wedding as to why she wouldn’t notice.

“Her life, in general, is so busy, so noticing even things right in front of her, she probably struggles with.”
