Coronation Street fans have hit out over a warning from ITV ahead of Monday’s instalment of the serial drama.

ITV viewers had tuned in to catch up on all the latest cobbles drama when the announcer told them to prepare for “strong emotions and difficult conversations with scenes some viewers may find upsetting”.

Following the announcement, many viewers took to Twitter as they thought the warning was unnecessary.

@VampLover27 penned: “There’s too many warnings nowadays, what happened to the good old days?”

CeCe fumed: “‘Strong emotions, difficult conversations, and scenes some people might find upsetting.’ FFS. Has there been an episode of #Corrie this past ten years, that hasn’t got this bulls**t before it starts?” (sic)

Doreen Mortfitt remarked: “Difficult convos, upsetting scene = hilarious tweets #Corrie.” (sic)

Jonty wrote: “#Corrie More upsetting scenes and conversations. Do we watch this for fun? We used to.”

However, Owen shared: “The scenes of upset warning is definitely working because I’m in bits at the thought of Paul dying with Billy by his side. #Corrie.”

Guy added: “#Corrie finding this story with Paul quite moving and somewhat upsetting the patient he’s with in the hospital is very convincing.”

During the emotional episode, Paul Foreman (played by Peter Ash) talked to a motor neurone disease support group member called Shelly who encouraged him to follow his dreams.

Paul ended up telling his partner Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) that Shelly had helped him process his feelings and that he wanted to ask him something.

Billy thought Paul would propose to him as he told Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) he was anticipating a marriage proposal.

However, Paul ended up asking his beau if he’d help him end his life when the time came.

The vicar was left heartbroken, telling him he would never help put his beloved partner “down like a dog”. 

“I thought you were going to propose when you said you wanted to talk to me,” Billy told Paul. 

“It’s a good idea, I can’t get down on one knee but we should.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV and ITVX.
