Coleen Nolan has opened up for the first time about her skin cancer scare during Monday’s Loose Women.

The ITV star said she found a “tiny bit of skin” on her shoulder, which “wasn’t annoying” but wouldn’t go.

After a visit to the dermatologist, Coleen was told she had skin cancer and would need to start treatment straight away.

Speaking to her co-stars, the 58-year-old explained if the cream didn’t work, she would need to have the skin cut out.

“I had my coat on and everything, I took my coat off and said, ‘Can you just check this on my shoulder I think it is a bit of eczema?’,” she recalled.

“And he said, ‘No that is basal cell carcinoma, you need to come back in’.

“And all of a sudden you think, ‘No, no can you just say it’s eczema, please? I didn’t come here for that’.

“Anyway, I went back in and he was very good and he said, ‘Look, it is nothing to worry about, it is a cancer which doesn’t necessarily spread but you do need to treat it’.

“‘We will treat it with cream’, you know chemo cream, ‘if that doesn’t work we will cut it out and give you a skin graft’.”

She added: “I mean it hits you like a ton of bricks.”

Coleen went on to admit she didn’t want to tell anyone about her scare because of what her sisters have been and are going through.

Coleen’s family has a history of cancer and more recently, her sister Linda shared an update on her own diagnosis.

Linda, who was first diagnosed nearly 20 years ago, has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.

Speaking in a new interview, Linda explained she was losing her hair again due to her treatment.

She told the Daily Mirror: “People say, ‘Well you know you look great’, but inside I’m screaming ‘I just don’t want to lose my hair again!’ I was devastated at losing it.

“I have two lovely wigs, blonde, short, wigs, I will get them out – but I hate them. I check it’s on straight all the time, or if it’s warm I’m boiling. It’s been easier to wear the baseball cap.”

Coleen and Linda’s sister Bernie also died from cancer 10 years ago, while their sibling Anne has also battled the deadly disease.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
