However, Chongyun is a strong character perfect for getting new players through the early stages of the game or rewarding older players for their devotion to him.

Chongyun’s Best Artifacts & Stats

Chongyun works particularly well as a Sub-DPS or Burst Support but can also be used as a Main DPS if the player feels like it, with all of these different ways to play there are many different ways to build Chongyun.

2-Piece Blizzard Strayer 2-Piece Gladiators Finale

This build caters to Chongyun in a Main DPS role, though it can be used for other roles if other options aren’t available. 2-Piece Blizzard Strayer will increase Cryo DMG by 15%, while 2-Piece Gladiator’s Finale will increase ATK by 18%, granting Chongyun an unconditional increase to his raw damage.

4-Piece Emblem Of Severed Fate

This is the most popular artifact set for any Sub-DPS with a strong Elemental Burst. 2-Piece Emblem of Severed Fate increases Energy Recharge by 20%, but it really shines at its 4-Piece bonus, which increases the wearer’s Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of their Energy Recharge, reaching a maximum of 75% bonus DMG. This will give Chongyun a strong increase to his Elemental Burst while allowing him to use it more frequently with its increase to his Energy Recharge.

4-Piece Noblesse Oblige

Noblesse Oblige won’t benefit Chongyun’s damage a huge amount, but it will provide a valuable buff to his team’s damage. Although in a lot of Chongyun teams, there may be a better unit to use Noblesse Oblige on such as Bennett (Noblesse Oblige buffs do not stack). The 2-Piece passive will increase the wearer’s Elemental Burst DMG by 20%, while the 4-Piece will provide a 20% ATK buff to all party members after using an Elemental Burst, which lasts for 12 seconds.

2-Piece Blizzard Strayer and 2-Piece Noblesse Oblige is also usable for Chongyun if the player can’t collect good artifacts for one of the above sets.

Regardless of his role in the team, Chongyun’s stat priority will stay mostly the same, although it may be useful to look for more Energy Recharge if you plan to play him in a Burst Support or Sup-DPS role.

Chongyun’s Best 5-Star & 4-Star Weapons

Genshin Impact Chongyun Weapons Wolf's Gravestone, Skyward Pride, Sacrificial Greatsword, Luxurious Sea-Lord

Chongyun can work with most Free-to-play weapons as increased Energy Recharge is pretty useful for him, especially in a Sub-DPS or Burst Support role. Here are a select few that particularly shines on him though.

5-Star Weapons: Wolf’s Gravestone & Skyward Pride

Wolf’s Gravestone: This weapon is a somewhat easy to get 5-star Claymore that is very strong on Chongyun with its huge ATK bonuses. At level 90, Wolf’s Gravestone has a Base ATK of 608 with an ATK Substat of 49.6%. The weapon has a passive that provides an additional unconditional 20% ATK bonus, and when hitting an opponent with less than 30% of their max HP, it will increase all party members’ ATK by 40% for 12 seconds.

Wolf’s Gravestone is a standard 5-star weapon, meaning it can be obtained through any weapon banner or even on the standard banner.

Skyward Pride: Another standard 5-star weapon, Skyward Pride at level 90 has a 674 Base ATK with an Energy Recharge Sub-Stat of 36.8%. The Passive increases all damage by 8%, and after using an Elemental Burst, Normal Attack, or Charged Attack, it creates a “Vacuum Blade” that deals 80% of the characters ATK as damage.

The Energy Recharge is a useful plus for Sub-DPS Chongyun, and the Vacuum Blades will provide some additional damage for Main-DPS Chongyun, making it a useful weapon for any role.

Skyward Pride is a standard 5-star weapon meaning it can be obtained through any weapon banner or even on the standard banner.

4-Star Weapons: Sacrificial Greatsword & Luxurious Sea-Lord

Sacrificial Greatsword: This weapon is a 4-Star weapon available on any banner, making it extremely easy to get as well as very useful. At level 90, it has a Base ATK of 565 and a Substat of 30.6%. It possesses Energy Recharge like the other weapons in the Sacrificial weapon line, and the passive has a 40% chance after damaging an opponent with an Elemental Skill to end its Cooldown once every 30 seconds.

This allows Chongyun to use his Elemental Skill more frequently, which will be helpful for teams that utilize his skill, and it also allows him to create more Elemental particles through the use of his skill.

Luxurious Sea-Lord: If you were around when the Luxurious Sea-Lord was available to unlock, it can be a really useful weapon for Chongyun. The weapon has a 454 Base ATK and an additional ATK Substat of 55.1%. The Passive at refinement rank 5 (which you probably also got if you unlocked the weapon) increases Elemental Burst damage by 24%, and when the Elemental Burst hits, it has a 100% chance to deal 200% of the user’s ATK as AoE damage once every 15 seconds.

Unfortunately this weapon was limited to a past event and is unavailable to get again.

Chongyun’s Best Team Compositions

Genshin Impact Xiangling, Chongyun, Xingqiu, Bennet National Team

National Team

One of Chongyun’s most popular and perhaps strongest teams is the National Team of Xiangling, Chongyun, Xingqiu and Bennett. This team is very Energy hungry, as it relies on the bursts of all characters to deal damage. Chongyun’s skill will allow Xingqiu’s burst to freeze and will also allow Xiangling’s burst to trigger melt while Bennett is present to provide healing and his huge damage boost.

You can also trade off Xiangling for Diluc in this team if you prefer, but Xiangling works surprisingly well.

This team will not work if you have unlocked the Constellation Level 6 for Bennett as his burst infusion will overwrite the Cryo infusion from Chongyun’s Skill.

Freeze/Shatter Team

Freeze is a strong reaction in Genshin that allows characters to easily gain Crit Rate through Cryo Resonance. In this team, Chongyun acts as the Main DPS, while Xingqiu provides Hydro application through his burst to trigger freeze. Kazuha’s skill and burst can be used to crowd control opponents as well as shred Cryo resistance through the Viridescent Veneerer set and also increase Cryo Damage with his passives.

Shenhe will further increase Cryo damage bonuses as well as bonuses to the Damage of Chongyuns Burst or Normal attacks. She will also allow the team to benefit from Cryo Resonance. Due to being a Claymore user, Chongyun will shatter frozen opponents on hit. This will increase his damage but remove the freeze effect on the opponent, so keep this in mind when playing the team. Fortunately, it will be easy to reapply freeze with his skill and Xingqiu’s burst.

  • Kazuha can be replaced with any Anemo support unit such as Venti or Sucrose to shred Cryo resistance with Viridescent Veneerer.
  • Shenhe can be replaced with another Cryo support or Sub-DPS such as Rosaria, Diona, or Layla.
