Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion Wrath of the Druids takes you to 9th century Ireland, where you explore new lands, take on epic quests, and uncover mystical secrets. In addition to all this, the expansion also introduces a formidable new group of cultists called the Children of Danu.
The cult is composed of Irish lords and corrupt druids, who are on a quest to thwart High King Flann’s attempt to unify all of Ireland. There are ten cult members in total, four of which must be found and assassinated during quests. The remaining six can be discovered by finding their corresponding clues. Assassinating each member of the cult sees them drop an Amber shard and gear. This guide provides detailed instructions on collecting all the cultist clues and locations, as well as some invaluable tips for eliminating each Member of the Order.
Before you hunt down this nefarious group, you must first unlock the menu that enables you to track them. This menu is similar to that of the Order of the Ancients, and is unlocked automatically during the Potion of Blood main quest. The quest is acquired a few hours into the expansion, and follows right after the main quest Foothold in Connacht.
Location & Assassination Strategy: Once you have collected all the clues for The Wren, you can mark her location on the map from the Children of Danu menu. After identifying her location, head to Rathcrogan’s marketplace to find her within the distrust area. Be prepared to face two to three guards who usually surround her.
Beware: If you choose to pick a fight, additional guards will show up to reinforce her.
Alternatively, you can opt for a stealthy approach and assassinate The Wren quietly. Be careful, though, because the guards around her may notice and attack you once you have eliminated her. Defeat all the guards and confirm your kill to eliminate The Wren from the Children of Danu menu. Assassinating her will reward you with new clues for The Ash and The Cursed, as well as an amber shard.
Location & Assassination Strategy: Exit the underground cave and meet with Ciara outside Tuam. Speak with her and follow her to the south of Lackanscaul to confront The Cursed. While on the trail of The Cursed, you will come across a wolf-like creature. Follow the beast’s tracks with Ciara until you finally find it, and it transforms into a werewolf, now called the Puca. Fight the Puca until it transforms back to a wolf, leaving behind more tracks.
Follow the tracks further until you reach a ritualistic site where The Cursed can be found. She is well-guarded by over 10 enemies, so maintain your distance and do not let them overwhelm you. The Puca will also return to join the fight. Take down the beast with a combination of ranged and melee attacks. With all enemies defeated, The Cursed will be rendered weak and defenseless, allowing for an easy assassination. Kill The Cursed like the historically-significant Assassin you are to pick up yet another amber shard and a clue for The Deer.
Keep your distance and use your bow to eliminate the many enemies one by one.
Location & Assassination Strategy: The clues reveal The Deer’s identity as Ruaidri, he of the ports. He can be found south of Lough Neagh, at a port camp defended by over 10 enemies. You can spot The Deer making rounds around the camp.
Although it is possible to assassinate The Deer from a vantage point, doing so will alert nearby guards, forcing you into a fight. It’s crucial to choose the right moment to strike. There are only a few moments when The Deer moves away from the line of sight of his guards, presenting a perfect opportunity for an assassination. Eliminate The Deer to collect an amber shard and obtain a clue for The Spider.
Location & Assassination Strategy: After collecting the final clue, The Spider’s identity is revealed as Aideen, a merchant of Dublin. Mark her location on your map and head to the Azar market in the Dublin ports. She is an easy target to assassinate with no guards protecting her. Defeat The Spider to pick up an amber shard and also reveal two clues, one each for The Whisper and The Seed.
Location & Assassination Strategy: Collect all three clues to uncover The Whisper’s name, Leasleach, the madwoman of the bogs. You can mark her location and track her from the Children of Danu menu. She is patrolling a nearby swamp, close to the third clue location. She is all alone in the area, providing a perfect opportunity for an assassination. Once you assassinate The Whisper, you can collect an amber shard and a clue for The Ash.
If you choose to fight The Whisper, beware of the boars that will charge at you as you fight the cultist!
Location & Assassination Strategy: After gathering all the necessary clues, you can finally uncover the true identity of The Ash as Cummascach. To defeat him, travel to south of Port Auley and make your way through a treacherous cave. Along the way, eliminate any druid acolytes standing in your path.
At the end of the cave, you will find The Ash accompanied by another druid. You cannot approach this encounter stealthily, and must be prepared for a head-on fight. After defeating both the druids, confirm the kill on The Ash to acquire an amber shard and the first clue for The Blaze.
Be aware of the druids’ poison attacks, which can apply the poison status and lower your health.
Location & Assassination Strategy: Once all the clues have been discovered, The Blaze is unveiled as Conlae, he of the flames. You can find him patrolling near the burnt village with a hound. Sneak up on him for an easy assassination. However, if you alert him, the hound begins attacking you, forcing you to take it out. Eliminate The Blaze to collect an amber shard and pick up a clue that will lead you to The Seed.
Location and Assassination Strategy: The three clues reveal The Mist’s name as Trian, he of the stone circles, along with his location. Just as with the other cultists, you can mark The Mist’s location on your map from the Children of Danu menu. He can be found performing rituals in the ruins northwest of Ulster, and is guarded by three other druid acolytes. These acolytes are spread out across the ruins, allowing you to plan a stealthy assassination on The Mist. Eliminate The Mist to collect an amber shard and a new clue for The Seed.
Location and Assassination Strategy:With all three clues in hand, the identity of The Seed is revealed as Beec mac Nath-i, he of the oceans. The Seed can be found within the Dunseverick Fortress, located northwest of Ulster. He is heavily guarded by several foes. After successfully assassinating The Seed, confirm the kill to obtain a clue that leads to the final Member of the Order, The Oak.
To make this assassination easier, sneak into the fortress during the night.
Assassination Strategy: After gathering the two clues, the identity of The Oak is revealed as Eogan mac Cartaigh. To locate and assassinate The Oak, you will need to begin the “A Scourging of Snakes” main quest, which becomes available during the Ledecestrescire arc.
This is a stronghold mission, in which you attack the village of Armagh and make your way through clearing waves of enemies. Eventually, you will come across a large red gate that has to be opened using a nearby lift. Use the lift to climb over the wall to encounter a few more enemies. Once you’ve defeated the enemies, use your arrows to shoot down the two locks holding up the gate and escort Flann uphill to a monastery. The Oak has barricaded himself within this monastery with two guards providing him protection.
Defeat the guards and The Oak to complete the Children of Danu quest line and collect the final amber shard as a reward.
After collecting all the amber shards, return to Deirdre and hand them over to her to begin the Amber Sun side quest. Deirdre will prepare a potion for you and ask you to defeat Balor, a towering druidic monster.
The fight begins with a cutscene, and immediately after, Balor jumps at you with a thrust attack. Evade his jump thrust attacks by dodging sideways. Maintain a safe distance and fire no more than two arrows at a time, as the giant will counter your attacks with area attacks. Balor’s strikes have very long range, so it is crucial to keep your distance.
Continue dealing damage with your bow until you reduce Balor’s health by 25%. Another cutscene will play, with Balor removing his mask and exposing his weak spots on his right elbow and left knee. Once you deal damage to a weak spot, Balor will perform an area attack and shoot a beam at you. You must evade the beam by sprinting either left or right. This fight will take some time, so keep your distance and remain patient, waiting for the right opportunities to strike.
Upon defeating Balor, you will be rewarded with a formidable weapon, the mythical spear called Gae Bolg. This powerful spear delivers lightning strikes on a third combo hit.
