Only three chapters of the Current arc have been released as of writing this article, and we have already seen the awe-inspiring powers of the enigmatic Falling Devil. But it would be foolish of the fans to consider it as its limit, as we have just witnessed the tip of the iceberg. With the Chainsaw Man fandom abuzz with excitement because of the Falling Devil, fans obviously want to know more about this new formidable foe.

Introduction To The Falling Devil

The first introduction of Falling Devil was given at the end of chapter 122, where we saw its raw power to manipulate people’s minds by making them fall off a building. When Fami and Hirofumi discussed the Prophecy of Nostradamus in a restaurant, we saw two people sitting behind them, discussing whether to buy a car or not. But suddenly, the guy says that they both should die instead, after which they head to a building and jump off, giving up their lives. This is the first time we see the power of the Falling Devil. Right after that, the chapter revealed a strange humanoid figure standing near Yoru while she ran, sensing the new Devil was way too powerful for her.

As of now, Falling Devil’s true appearance is unknown, as, after coming from hell to the earth, it gave itself a human form using the corpses of its targets. In its first appearance, Falling Devil had a woman’s body, eight arms, with most of them coming out of its neck, no head, and what seemed like an umbilical cord from her navel. In her next appearance, she gave herself a head and wore a chef’s dress. Its creepy looks were accompanied by blood running out of its eyes, nose, and mouth.

Falling Devil’s Relation To The Nostradamus Prophecy

Falling Devil relation to the Nostradamus Prophecy

Tatsuki Fujimoto has inspired several characters or their characteristics from history and mythology. For instance, Angel Devil’s inspiration was based on the classification of angels in Christianity. Similarly, Power’s name was also inspired by an angel in Christianity. This time, Tatsuki managed to draw inspiration from a popular historical character, Nostradamus, a popular astrologer known for predicting the future.

The series used the famous prediction of Nostradamus and changed it to introduce us to the Falling Devil.

The year one thousand nine hundreds ninety nine seven months

From the sky will come a great King of alarm

To bring back to life the great King of Angoulmois.

Before after Mars to reign by good fortune

In context to Chainsaw Man, Falling Devil is the king of terror descended from hell that will end humanity in July 1999. And to prove that the prediction was likely to happen, Hirofumi explained to Fami how they conducted an experiment with the help of the Future Devil and a few convicts. For 23 out of the 30 convicts, the Devil correctly predicted that they would die in July 1999.

What Are The Powers Of The Falling Devil?

What are the powers of the Falling Devil

As we have seen in the recent chapters, Falling Devil has the ability to show people their dark past, which seems to traumatize them. This seems to make the Falling Devil’s victims snap out of reality and make it easy for the Devil to kill them. This mind manipulation technique extends to the limits where the Falling Devil can convince people to give up their lives voluntarily.

With a certain clapping gesture, it can also make its victims fall upside down. Those who are presently in their senses might save themselves by holding on to something, but if the Devil is also manipulating their minds at that moment, they might not even know that they are falling down in real life. Those who couldn’t save themselves from falling can be seen entering the door of hell.
