Carol Vorderman is known for speaking out on social media and she was quick to defend her This Morning friend Alison Hammond after trolls slammed her for crying on the programme.

Alison broke down in tears live on the ITV show after Phillip Schofield’s emotional interview with the BBC came to light following his exit.

After seeing Alison crying over her friend Phillip, viewers took to Twitter to poke fun at her response.

D Fens Reborn shared the clip of Alison in tears, saying: “After hosting the @BAFTA’s last year, it’s great to hear Alison Hammond will be nominated in Best Actress in a Short Film for 2023. Well deserved.”

@ChristopherNih1 commented: “That was so cringe. Fake crocodile tears and Dermot’s fake concern.”

Her reaction didn’t go down well with Boris Johnson’s alleged former partner, Petronella Wyatt, who fumed on Twitter: “People who sob on tv @AlisonHammond are not fit to interview Prime Ministers. They are an embarrassment to themselves and to television.”

Carol then decided to fire back at Petronella, accusing her of “trying to belittle” Alison.

She added: “Keep your pathetic bigoted views to yourself @PetronellaWyatt.”

In the fiery response, she also made references to Petronella’s relationship with the former prime minister.

Viewer Carol Walker responded: “Crumbs @carolvorders when you have someone’s back you really do have their back good for you.”

Andrew Buckley added: “Completely agree Carol can’t imagine how difficult the situation is for Alison but I think both her and Dermot have done a fantastic job in very trying circumstances.”

Alison shared her thoughts on Phillip’s exit whilst presenting live on the show, saying: “I’m finding it really painful because obviously I loved Phillip Schofield and it’s weird because I still love Philip Schofield, however, what he’s done is wrong.

“He’s admitted it, he’s said sorry, but I’m really… I mean, as a family we’re all really struggling to process everything.

“I never know what to say, but I remember what my mum said.

“My mum always said, ‘use your bible as your sat nav in life,’ and in the bible it says, ‘He without sin cast the first stone.'”

Struggling to speak, she went on: “And I just don’t want to… I don’t want to say anything bad, because obviously, I’m in conflict.”

This Morning airs on weekdays on ITV at 10am
