As someone who owns a Steam Deck, I’m always wondering whether new video games are compatible with it. In this instance, can you play Alan Wake 2 on the Steam Deck?
This is a question I was wondering, and you probably are too. Remedy Entertainment’s sequel to the Alan Wake series is a survival horror game that may intrigue Steam Deck users.
Is Alan Wake 2 Steam Deck compatible?
Unfortunately, you can’t play Alan Wake 2 natively on the Steam Deck. On the other hand, you can certainly find ways to download the Epic Games Store and play the game through that. It takes some diligent research and time, since there are some methods of getting the Epic Games Store on your Steam Deck.
Sadly, Alan Wake 2 is exclusive to the Epic Games Store, at least for now. In the future, the game could possibly launch on other platforms like Steam, but if you want to play it on a PC or Steam Deck, it must be through the Epic Games Store.

If you’re someone who regularly plays games from that store on your Steam Deck, or you’re willing to try it out, you’re free to do so, but be warned. The system requirements for Alan Wake 2 are pretty hefty, and the Steam Deck can sometimes struggle with graphically-intensive games.
As someone who has the cheapest Steam Deck, I personally wouldn’t even try to play this game on mine. Of course, no one is saying no, but I’m doubting for now that it would run the way you’d like it to. This is especially true because it’s not even native to Steam, which the Steam Deck specializes in.
Otherwise, Alan Wake 2 is technically not compatible with the Steam Deck, but there are work-around ways to play the game on the Epic Games Store on your handheld device. There’s always the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S though!
