With a map four times bigger than the first game, are we expected to walk across the land of Vermund and Battahl Can you fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Well, let’s find out, shall we?

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Is there fast travel?

Let’s get things out of the way, there is, in fact, fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2. However, it is not the fast travel we are accustomed to which will allow limitless and open-ended travel by just accessing the map and clicking the desired location. In an interview with IGN, Hideaki Itsuno – Dragon’s Dogma 2 director – mentioned that traveling and exploring the world on foot shouldn’t be boring, and if it is, then it is a sign of the game itself being boring. Quite savage, huh? But anyway, there is limited fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and they are tied to two mechanics: Ferrystones and Oxcarts.

Use Ferrystones from Dragon’s Dogma 1

Ferrystones are not a new thing in the Dragon’s Dogma franchise. In the first game, you could purchase both Ferrystones and Portcrystals to enable limited fast travel. You see, you and your custom-made character will need to position Portcrystals in specific places around the world, turning them into custom fast travel points. You will then use your Ferrystones to travel to these Portcrystals. This mechanic will make its return and it is the safer fast travel option for your character, although getting the mentioned items will be really expensive and very rare to find.

Expose yourself to Oxcart travel

The new feature coming to Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the Oxcarts. While you might think they work exactly like the carriages in Skyrim, they are limited as well. They will indeed take you to major locations across the world, there is some risk to it. You see, the Oxcarts will take the main routes toward your destination, which will sometimes not be as safe as it may sound. You might encounter dangers such as monsters, bandits, and everything in between, which will interrupt your travel.

The latter Oxcart option will allow you to even go through the entire journey, just like taking a taxi in GTA 5. This promotes immersion and interactability with your surroundings, which can be something you could potentially enjoy. However, if you wish to skip this journey, you can choose to close your eyes and skip the journey. Your sleep will get interrupted, though, if enemies attempt to attack you, so keep that in mind. Be ready to travel all over the world once Dragon’s Dogma 2 drops, in a fast manner or not.
