A new rumor suggests Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could feature a “greatest hits” map pack, which will include some of the most classic maps from across the entire Call of Duty franchise. The maps won’t just be tied down to previously Infinity Ward titles either, as the pack will reportedly include multiplayer maps from Sledgehammer Games and Treyarch Studios too.
The news comes from Twitter user, TheGhostOfHope, a reliable leaker when it comes to all things Call of Duty. According to Hope, Activision aims to celebrate 20 years of Call of Duty by releasing a “greatest hits” map pack for their upcoming title, Modern Warfare 2.
The pack will reportedly be a paid expansion, something the franchise hasn’t done since Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 in 2018. Ever since the introduction of seasonal content and battle passes, new maps have often been introduced for free with new seasons. However, that’s not to say that Modern Warfare 2 won’t still include free maps over the course of new seasons.
Hope previously reported back in September that Infinity Ward is “planning to release all/almost all Modern Warfare 2 maps (2009) together all at once during the post launch of Modern Warfare 2 (2022)”. The greatest hits map pack will reportedly be on top of the original Modern Warfare 2 maps, and could possibly release during Year 2 of Modern Warfare 2.
The maps included in the pack are yet to be known, but Hope states that they will include classics from Infinity Ward, Treyarch Studios, and Sledgehammer Games. This means fans could see maps from titles such as Black Ops, World At War, Advanced Warfare, the original Modern Warfare series, and more all within the upcoming release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 28th, 2022. Players can get access to the campaign a week before launch by pre-ordering the game.
