Bobby Davro chatted to Lorraine Kelly on Monday about his grief and how he is raising awareness of pancreatic cancer after his fiancé Vicky Wright was initially told by doctors she was suffering from IBS.

He went on detail his commitment to raising awareness of the illness which tragically killed Vicky at the age of 63.

Bobby also reflected on his own mental health as he explained: “I have a very good friend called doctor Nick Murdoch who is a psychiatrist and he’s helped me through you know, the anxiety, the mental side of things.”

The actor also talked about how he supported Vicky during the difficult time.

“Seeing somebody suffer from that dreadful disease, it really took it out of me,” he stated.

“Of course it did, and you were there all the time,” Lorraine replied.

“Yeah, as much as I could be,” confirmed Bobby.

“You were there and it’s so, so, so difficult,” Lorraine added as she turned focus to the comedian’s grief.

“You go through so many different feelings,” he explained. “It’s relief because they’re no longer suffering and then you have that sadness, and then you have anger – I got angry about things.

“And then guilt and then sadness and it’s just learning to live with it, you take each day as it comes.”

As he recalled how his fiance’s illness had progressed, Bobby reflected: “She had hope, but sadly it didn’t work, you know, that hope dissolved.

“And then you have the psychological effect it has, she had severe anxiety.”

He went on to describe how continuing to focus on the funny side of life and cracking jokes has been his “medicine”.

Bobby began dating Vicky in 2007 and after splitting up in 2011, the pair reunited and were engaged until Vicky’s death in May this year.

Bobby is best known for his career in comedy, and he made his television debut in 1981.

He also starred in EastEnders as Vinnie Monks from 2007 to 2008.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
