In terms of acquisitions in the gaming world, few were as high-profile as Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard. After several legal hurdles even before bodies on other continents, this purchase was finally completed last year. Therefore, the spotlight was on the various franchises that are now under Microsoft’s control, and one of them is World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft Coming To Consoles

That’s why, according to Blizzard, the idea of bringing World of Warcraft to consoles is still being discussed at the studio. In a recent interview, World of Warcraft’s vice president and executive producer, Holly Longdale, talked about how things are at Blizzard after the acquisition.

Longdale was asked if this new relationship with Microsoft could result in World of Warcraft coming to consoles, to which Longdale responded, “Of course we still talk about it. We’re gamers, I don’t think anything is beyond our capabilities, but we have nothing to say about it right now.”

This statement echoes comments Longdale made last November during BlizzCon 2023, where the executive first mentioned that, now that they are part of Microsoft, they are constantly talking about the idea of bringing the MMO to consoles.

This also reflects other comments Longdale made in the interview about what it’s like to work under Microsoft’s control. Unlike what one might expect, with their new owners requesting that Blizzard do certain things, Longdale specified that the relationship between the companies is the opposite. “There’s no one asking us to do anything,” Longdale stated.

The producer also mentioned that, now that they are part of Microsoft, they have been able to talk to people from Mojang, the Minecraft studio, and the team behind The Elder Scrolls Online, from Bethesda, to exchange information about what works in each other’s projects.

World of Warcraft is approaching its 20th anniversary on November 23, and the game is about to release a new trilogy of expansions starting with The War Within, which will be released at some point this year.
