BioWare Publishes Exclusive Short Story For Dragon Age Day

In celebration of Dragon Age Day 2022, BioWare has published an exclusive short story titled “As We Fly.” Six previous short stories have been released for Dragon Age Day 2020 and 2021.

Dragon Age Day is an annual online event dedicated to the Dragon Age franchise. Fans around the world share their art, post cosplay outfits, stream on Twitch, and raise funds for charity. BioWare officially acknowledges Dragon Age Day and participates along with fans by facilitating giveaways and other activities. This year, BioWare commissioned 32 artists to illustrate iconic Dragon Age characters, including Alistair of Dragon Age: Origins and Cassandra Pentaghast of Dragon Age: Inquisition. In recent years, the publisher has also shared short stories set in the Dragon Age universe. BioWare continues this tradition for Dragon Age Day 2022 with a new adventure.

This year’s action-packed short story, “As We Fly,” was written by Lukas Kristjanson, a senior writer at BioWare. The tale is set in Treviso, a settlement in the nation of Antiva, during a time of occupation by the Antaam. Sibling duo Noa and Neri, members of the Antivan Crows, take on a brutal, hammer-wielding Antaam called Kaathrata the Lash in an intense, nighttime showdown. Only one party survives to hear the gossip of townsfolk the next morning.

Earlier today, BioWare gave fans a glimpse of its upcoming title, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, with the release of a new in-game cinematic. The minute-long video reintroduces players to the elven mage Solas, a familiar character from Dragon Age: Inquisition, but with a dark twist. Solas, now known as Fen’Harel, appears to be the next game’s overarching villain, as he aims to destroy the Veil separating the Fade from Thedas.

In October, BioWare announced that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf had reached the Alpha milestone. This update meant that the game was playable from beginning to end, marking a significant step forward in development. The Dragon Age team could then turn their attention to improving visuals, characters, and narrative pacing, bringing the fourth major installment in the franchise closer and closer to completion.

However, Dragon Age fans shouldn’t expect BioWare to release Dragon Age: Dreadwolf before the end of this year. In the blog post “Dragon Age Day 2022,” the publisher notes that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is still “deep in development.” For now, Dragon Age fans will have to keep waiting for an official launch date.
