Best tips and how to beat Infernal Beast

The Fields of Mourning is the third dungeon region of Hades 2, and since it ramps up the difficulty here are the best tips for how you can get through it and beat the Infernal Beast.

Hades 2: Best tips to beat the Fields of Mourning

The Fields of Mourning present you with more than one Boon or buff per room, which is a nice adjustment to the previous regions Erebus and Oceanus. If you’re struggling to make it through this section of Hades 2, here are some tips on how to tackle the Fields of Mourning.

  1. Change your weapon. By this point in Hades 2, you should have unlocked more weapons. While the Witch’s Staff is incredible, if you’re feeling stuck in the Fields of Mourning you may find better luck with the other weapons. Personally, the second best weapon has to be the Moonstone Axe which inflicts high AoE damage but moves slower than most weapons.
  2. Take advantage of Terrain Kills. You can find various environmental elements in the Fields of Mourning that can aid you in defeating enemies. One of the larger plants can allow you to deal extra damage to enemies if you hit it while facing enemies.
  3. Unlock helpful Incantations. Numerous Incantations can aid you throughout the dungeons, and leaving them locked can hinder your runs. Here are some that I recommend:
    • Rise of Stygian Wells: Cause Locations in the Underworld to sometimes contain a Well of Charon (extra buffs to purchase).
    • Briny Lifespring: Reveal a hidden chamber in Oceanus, where you may restore some Life in peace (heal yourself before entering the Fields of Mourning).
    • Kindred Keepsakes: Manifest your collection of Keepsakes in the spaces separating each Region (the ability to change your Keepsake in each Region is more helpful than you think).

How to beat the Infernal Beast

The Guardian of the Fields of Mourning is the Infernal Beast, which is one of the toughest bosses to beat in Hades 2. If you’re having a tough time making it past this boss, here are some tips that can help you take it down. First off, I had a few great Boons that helped me out:

  • Volcanic Strike (Hephaestus): Your Attacks occasionally create a blast that deals 200 Damage in the area.
  • Volcanic Flourish (Hephaestus): Your Specials occasionally create a blast that deals 400 Damage in the area.
  • Cross Cataclysm (Daedalus): Your magick-imbued Attack deals +40% damage and also strikes sideways.
  • Arctic Ring (Demeter): Your Casts repeatedly deal damage in the area and inflict Freeze.
  • Soot Spring (Hestia): Your Sprint destroys most ranged shots near you, and inflicts Scorch on foes that fired.

The first half of the fight is the easiest, as the Infernal Beast has relatively unchallenging moves to dodge. Always stay behind this boss since it’s easy to dodge behind it and lay in some hits before it turns around. As soon as you see it lift both hands up, run away, as it’ll pound the ground and deal AoE damage around it. If it raises one hand, get behind it, because this damage radius will be much larger.

The Infernal Beast will also swipe its arm, throwing out an arc of fiery damage that will continue to travel outwards. You can easily dodge through this. Halfway through the fight, it’ll spawn some minions. They shouldn’t be too tough to take out, and the Infernal Beast will be out of your way.

After that is the tough part. You’ll see numerous orange circles appear on the ground, warning you of an impending attack. It’ll be tough to avoid this one, but you should be able to spot a small open area that isn’t covered to hide from the attack.

Another annoying attack is when the boss spits bursts of fire in an arc, but getting behind it is easy enough to avoid this attack. Continue to take your time getting hits in and avoiding these damaging circular attacks to win the fight. If you want to upgrade your build for taking on the Infernal Beast, make sure you have the right Keepsake.
