Broadcasters Naga Munchetty and Ben Thompson paused BBC Breakfast on Thursday to announce the rest of the show would be airing elsewhere thanks to a schedule shake-up.

“You’ve been watching Breakfast on BBC One,” Ben announced. “Now, we’re going to leave you here on BBC One, because coming up next is live coverage of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.”

“Yes, it’s going to be the start of something fantastic,” Naga chimed.

Reassuring viewers they could continue watching the staple morning programme, she explained: “If you want to stay with us you can turn over to BBC Two, we’re going to be on air until nine o’clock this morning.

“Paul Young’s going to be joining us a little later, so it’ll be worth it. Bye for now.”

Ben also kept his online fans updated on the sudden shake-up by posting a sweet picture of himself with his co-star on the BBC Breakfast sofa.

Alongside a snap showing Naga and Ben smiling for the camera, he explained: “We’re jumping over from @BBCOne to @BBCTwo now, where we’ll be with you until 9am…. to make way for the Women’s World Cup. Find your remote, and join us. @BBCBreakfast @TVNaga01.”

Fans soon responded to the picture, with @Susan05713606 writing: “What a lovely picture.”

@Swiss3489 echoed this, adding: “Good morning, everybody! That’s a happy photo.”

However, some were left unhappy with the switch-up as @Fallowhurst complained: “Why not have the football on BBC2 and leave Breakfast where it belongs?”

Elsewhere, musician and guest on the show Paul also had to tweet an impromptu update to his fans.

From his account @PaulYoungParlez, the 67-year-old informed his 48,000 followers: “Update – I have now heard I should be on around 8.45am with @TVNaga01 and @BBCBenThompson @BBCBreakfast is being moved to BBC2 from 7.30am onwards. Thanks all!”

The Women’s World Cup officially kicks off today, with the opening match between New Zealand and Norway.

The major sports event is being held across New Zealand and Australia.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
