At the tail end of last year, BBC viewers saw host Amol Rajan investigate how working-class people were able to land some of Britain’s top jobs in the documentary called How to Crack the Class Ceiling. Although when the 39-year-old was sat in the back of a taxi driving through London, the journalist failed to wear his seatbelt.

During the episode, Amol was sharing tips and tricks on how people from less privileged backgrounds were able to secure jobs in Britain’s elite professions.
One particular scene saw the 39-year-old driving through London in the back of a taxi while speaking to the camera.
However, eagle-eyed viewers noticed Amol was failing to wear his seatbelt when the vehicle was in motion.
Not wearing a seatbelt is illegal in a moving vehicle and can carry a potential fine of up to £500.

Fredfreeyo added: “Mate about bl**dy time this was exposed, I applaud you. Thank you for this programme. I can only hope change comes.”

With Joyorkart saying: “Really thoughtful, interesting programme, hope it gets a really wide audience and is used in schools as a starting point for discussion, thanks so much.”

Viewers will be able to see more of Amol onscreen later this year as the presenter will replace Jeremy Paxman as the host of BBC Two quiz show University Challenge.

The 72-year-old decided to step down from the position after 29 years following his diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
Since it was revealed Amol would be replacing Jeremy, he described the opportunity as a “dream come true”.

He commented: “Being asked to host my favourite TV programme is dream-come-true territory.
“I have watched University Challenge obsessively for years, addicted to its high standards, glorious title music, and inspirational contestants.

“It’s the best possible antidote to cynicism about young people, allowing millions of us to test our wits against the best minds of a new generation, and annoy and impress our families by barking answers from the sofa.

“I am very conscious that in the late, great Bamber, and that giant of British culture, Jeremy, I have vast shoes to fill. With his immense intellect, authority, and respect from students and viewers alike, Jeremy hands over a format, and show, as strong as ever.”

Amol will be seen on University Challenge in the autumn of 2023.
