Larian Studios announced the official release period for Baldur’s Gate 3, August 2023, at tonight’s Game Awards ceremony.
The announcement accompanied a new trailer for the game which aired during the show. In addition to the release date, the trailer showed off the game’s titular city of Baldur’s Gate. Excitingly, two characters are returning from previous instalments in the series, the half-elf Jaheira and the human Minsc. Other than these big revelations, the trailer showed off various characters in action, dialogue interactions and provided some additional context on plot points.
Details on the collector’s edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 were also revealed. It will cost $269.99 and is now available to pre-order. The stock will be limited to 25,000 units worldwide and includes a plethora of items. The centrepiece is a diorama of Mind Flayer and Drow locked in combat. Also included is a hardcover art book, Dungeons & Dragons character sheets for each of the four origin characters, a cloth A3 map of Faerun, a tadpole keyring, 32 stickers, three Magic: The Gathering booster packs (for the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate set), a certificate of authenticity and an oversized D20.
The announcement had been rumoured ever since Larian confirmed they had something to showcase at The Game Awards. Baldur’s Gate is now officially planned to release next August, almost three years after the game entered early access in late 2020.
As for the live version of the game, only the first act is available to play through. The upcoming Patch 9 is expected to release sometime in December. The patch will add “multiple highly anticipated additions” and “a new playable class” according to the developer.
Baldur’s Gate fans rejoice, there is an end in sight. Baldur’s Gate 3 releases in August 2023.
