Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will not be featuring a New Game+ mode in the future. In a recent announcement post, Ubisoft shared that the highly demanded feature will not be coming to the action-RPG. Along with that saddening news for the fans, the publisher has also announced that the game will receive the Title Update 1.6.2 on December 6, which will also be its last.

New Game+ is a popular, unlockable feature among many RPGs, as it allows the player to restart the game once they complete the main story. The mode, which was present in two previous Assassin’s Creed titles, allows players to keep all of their items and preserve the experience achieved in the first playthrough. There is no doubt that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players have been eyeing this mode as well. But, revealed in rather surprising news, the game will not receive the requested mod due to the “unique structure of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.” The wave of announcements also stated that the game “has been built as a unique Assassin’s Creed experience, one that is very different from its predecessors in its structure…When investigating the implementation of New Game+, we realized that the depth of the game gave us limited options to make replayability unique and rewarding.”

Both titles in the latest trilogy in the series, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, allowed players to restart their game with their hard-earned gear and character progression of the first playthrough. While the last installment is not getting the same treatment, Ubisoft shares that the past content has the potential to partly substitute for the long-awaited New Game+ mode. The announcement states that the “new content released in the past months, including never-before-seen experiences like Forgotten Saga, has provided an exciting and challenging experience for those seeking more replayable content.”

The upcoming update, on the other hand, will be adding another much-requested cosmetic feature to the in-game options. Players will be able to keep Eivor’s hood even when the cloak is not equipped. This purely cosmetic feature will not have any impact on gameplay, meaning that it will not reduce the chances of detection. Moreover, the cosmetic addition will not be the only new feature in the final content update, as Ubisoft shares that it has “a few more surprises in store” before it wraps up with the final update, which will be “concluding Eivor’s saga in a touching and intimate way.”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla may not be receiving a New Game+ mode in the future, but it did receive a nomination for the first-ever video game music category at the Grammy Awards.
