Assassin’s Creed Hexe Details Leaked

Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the most supernatural and darkest installment of Ubisoft’s saga, leaks new details about the protagonist, story, and powers. It’s not yet an official name, but from the aesthetics, we know it will be set in the 16th century and will revolve around the witch hunts during the Roman Empire. It’s expected to be released in 2026.

The Most Supernatural & Darkest Assassin’s Creed

Assassin’s Creed is set to make a strong comeback this year: it’s assumed that 2024 will be the year of “Codename Red,” the game set in feudal Japan made by Ubisoft Quebec, the first to be part of the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform, still a mystery.

It was in 2023 when the simultaneous announcement of Assassin’s Creed Red and Hexe occurred, the first main installments of the saga to be integrated into Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a hub that will gather the franchise’s upcoming games in one place. Unlike the first title, Hexe didn’t detail its setting, only hinting that witches would be involved in some way. Now, details of all kinds are finally leaking.

Promising to be the darkest game in the entire saga, as well as the most different, it’s being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and could be set in Central Europe during the Holy Roman Empire of the 16th century. However, Insider Gaming now offers a ton of information about the project, which is still in a relatively early stage of development but projected to be released in 2026.

According to the source, Assassin’s Creed Hexe aims to be a more linear game compared to its predecessors, although it will still feature open-world exploration. Its protagonist will be female, possibly named Elsa, who possesses some supernatural abilities. While her abilities are unknown, some secretly sent images to the media show the character being pursued by German soldiers until she uses a spell to possess a nearby cat.

Players will be able to control the possessed animal to distract the soldiers, all in dark and gloomy environments in the cobblestone streets of the city. Additionally, it seems the game will bring back the fear system from Jack The Ripper, DLC of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, which instilled fear in enemies throughout its story.

A Different Assassin’s Creed

According to Tom Henderson, the game is still in a relatively early stage of development, but has some details about its protagonist, Elsa, a woman with supernatural abilities. Elsa would be the only available protagonist in a more linear game than other titles, but with “elements” of open-world exploration, something more akin to the early games in the saga.

The game will be set in the 16th century, in Europe, specifically Germany, during the witch trials of Wurzburg. Elsa uses her powers to possess a cat, which distracts some guards. Furthermore, the game would have a Fear system, inspired by the Jack the Ripper DLC from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. With our witch powers, we can instill fear in adversaries…

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is in development at Ubisoft Montreal, a studio that is also working, almost from scratch, on the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Since the estimated release date for Hexe is 2026, perhaps the Prince of Persia remake could be ready before then.

After large-scale games like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed returned to its roots with Mirage, a game that has filled the gaps in releases in recent years.

Now, it seems that Assassin’s Creed Red will end up arriving before spring 2025, leaving space for Hexe from then until the end of 2026. Certainly, its setting, gameplay, and story promise to offer something entirely different, although we’ll have to wait longer to know for sure officially.
