Bandai Namco announced that Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown surpassed 5 million units sold worldwide. To celebrate the milestone, the company shared new desktop wallpapers on the game’s website. It also released a remix soundtrack and a recorded album from the 2021 orchestra concert on digital platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music.
Ace Combat 7 is the newest entry in the flight shooting game series that takes place in an alternate version of Earth known as Strangereal. The game is known for pitting modern fighter aircraft from the real world against gigantic superweapons like the Arsenal Bird and fictional cutting-edge aircraft, such as the X-02S Strike Wyvern. Bandai Namco had finished adding content to the game with crossover content from Top Gun: Maverick and The Idolm@ster in 2022.
Ace Combat 7 reached the 5 million sales milestone in less than five years after Bandai Namco released the title in January 2019. The series’ latest entry to date had already set a new sales record when it reached 3 million units in August 2021. The previous record holder was the 2001 PS2 entry Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies with 2.64 million units.
Bandai Namco is also working on the next Ace Combat entry as of this announcement. The company collaborated with ILCA to establish Bandai Namco Aces Inc., a new development studio dedicated to the new title, in July 2022.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
