Everything is not okey dokey with Lucy at the end of the first season for Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout. Actress Ella Purnell has opened up about what’s going on with the Vault-Dweller in the finale and why they actually reshot one gut-wrenching scene in particular. Warning: Major spoilers ahead for the Fallout TV show.

Speaking to GQ, Purnell revealed that how Lucy reacts to ending her mother’s life played out pretty differently in the initial take for the Fallout season finale. “We originally shot me killing my mum as a really emotional moment; there were a lot of tears and wailing,” the actress said. “And it just didn’t feel right. We felt like, if she’s gonna get up and go into the wasteland, she needs to be a changed woman, and maybe her grief needs to give way to something harder.”

Now Playing: How The Fallout TV Show Shapes Fallout’s Future

The Fallout season finale sees Lucy finding out her mother is now a ghoul after being bombed by her father, Hank. So “by killing her mum in a mercy kill, she’s doing exactly what the Ghoul did to Roger [in episode four]. She’s learnt from him. She has turned into him,” said Purnell.

However, Purnell admits that even she’s unaware of what Lucy is “about to become” in Fallout Season 2. But the actress does “want the audience at the end of the show to wonder if their hero is still a good person.”

One characteristic that Purnell hopes Lucy keeps going forward in Fallout is her sense of humor. The actress said she enjoys being funny and doing stunts on the TV series.

The Fallout TV show has sparked major interest into the video game franchise. For instance, titles like Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 have seen notable player-count boosts since the debut of the series. Additionally, a popular game-mod website has been facing high-traffic issues since Fallout premiered on Prime Video.
