Looking for the elusive Kecleon, but having trouble finding it? This guide can help.
Pokemon GO has introduced different Pokemon from across every region except for the newest Paldea region. As new generations were introduced, it got stranger and stranger that a fairly common third-generation Pokemon had still not been added to the game. That Pokemon is Kecleon, who has a special ability known as Color Change. Many had speculated that perhaps we would finally get it with the upcoming Pokemon GO Tour: Hoenn event, but Niantic decided to surprise us all by releasing Kecleon a little earlier than that.
Befitting its chameleon-like design, Kecleon in other games has what is known as the Color Change ability that allows it to change from its Normal typing to others after being attacked. This is one reason a lot of people speculated that Kecleon had not been added to Pokemon GO already, but the version that is available now doesn’t appear to have anything special as abilities are not a thing in Pokemon GO as of this time.
How To Get Kecleon
Catching a Kecleon is easier said than done in Pokemon GO, as it’s not just going to pop up on your map like the majority of others. Instead, you are going to really have to search and get lucky when trying to find it.
When walking around in Pokemon GO, make sure to start checking every single PokeStop that you come across since Kecleon likes to hide within them. When clicking on a PokeStop and the icon comes up to spin as per usual, you may notice an “invisible” silhouette that you can barely see. When you try to spin the PokeStop, it will inform you that you cannot spin it at that time. This means you need to tap on the actual Kecleon silhouette, and eventually, it’ll get off of the icon and allow you to spin the PokeStop.\
After knocking the Kecleon off of the PokeStop, you need to head back to the world map, and you’ll then find that one Kecleon spawning on the world map. You likely want to use some Pinap berries and the like to maximize your Kecleon Candy since it’s one of the less common Pokemon to get in the game currently. We also do not know how long it will be available in the game either, so make sure to take advantage and catch as many as you can in the meantime.
Is There A Shiny Kecleon?
At this point, there is no way to get a shiny Kecleon in the game by finding it in PokeStops. However, that is about to change for a select number of people with the upcoming Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn event, specifically one of the in-person events.
Those participating in Pokemon GO Tour: Hoenn around the globe will not be able to get shiny Kecleon, but those who are attending Pokemon GO Tour: Hoenn – Las Vegas will have the exclusive chance to grab the shiny variant. Purchasing a ticket for the in-person event in Las Vegas does not guarantee players a shiny Kecleon either, as it only gives players the opportunity to get one across the two-day event. Those not at the in-person event will at least be getting a boost in Kecleon showing up though.
