The month of June is a historically important one, as 80 years ago on June 6th, 1944, the Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to repel the Nazi forces occupying France. In commemoration of D-Day, both World of Tanks and World of Warships are engaging special events for players and history buffs alike.
We begin with Warships, which is marking the anniversary as part of Update 13.4 with a related operation releasing in three parts over the course of six weeks, which awards a special currency that can be used for various cosmetic items and historical ship commanders. The first of these operations becomes available on May 29th and tasks players with setting sail as part of an Allied vanguard spearheading the landings on Utah Beach, while the other two operations will become available with Update 13.5.
As for Tanks, there will be an entire month’s worth of commemorative events being held in-game. Details about what these events will be are set to be shared next week, but there is a cinematic teaser trailer heralding the affair below.
Finally, Wargaming is also marking the anniversary outside of the game itself with a Longest Night of Museums livestream event on Saturday, June 1st. The 10-hour broadcast will feature guided tours of several ships that took part in D-Day and premiere two new documentaries about the event, as well as hand out Twitch Drops to Warships players.
