Wild Hunt’s next-gen update is releasing late 2022

After its most recent delay, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s next-gen update will now release in Q4 2022. This was announced earlier today via the official Twitter account for the Witcher games. Today also happens to be the seventh anniversary of the game’s release. While Q4 2022 isn’t an exact date by any means, it’s good to know the update is on its way.

The Witcher 3‘s next-gen update has been through some tough times.  Originally, Saber Interactive, the company behind the Nintendo Switch port of the game, was handling development of the upgrade. However, possible behind the scenes issues eventually led CD Projekt Red to develop the next-gen version in-house.

It’s been a long time coming

It’s fair to say that we’ve been waiting for this upgrade for a while. It was first announced all the way back in September 2020. Back then, it was assumed that the update would come during 2021. But, when October 2021 rolled around, it was delayed into mid-2022. This brings us to now, where we finally have some idea of when to expect it. Thankfully, it seems that Q4 2022 could finally be when this update releases.

Witcher 3 next gen version

The Witcher 3‘s next-gen update will feature a “range of visual and technical improvements.” Of course, this means that ray tracing and faster loading times will be present. This version will also include all the DLC and expansion content that has been released for the game. We don’t exactly what to expect from The Witcher 3‘s next-gen version, but it should be a decent step up from the original game. Marcin Momot, the global community director at CD Projekt Red, confirmed that new DLC inspired by the Netflix series will be included.

Fans of The Witcher don’t just have this update to look forward to either. Back in March, CD Projekt Red announced that a new game in the series is in development. While we still don’t know too much about it, we do know that it will utilize Unreal Engine 5 instead of the developer’s own REDengine. We aren’t sure this new game will put us back into the boots of Geralt of Rivia, but fans are still excited about what lies ahead. With The Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade finally on its way, it might be time for one more playthrough.
