When picking a hero, you are not locked into that one hero unless you are playing with friends who are also playing that hero. You can go to the Belfry which is your hideout and change characters at any time. Each character has its own abilities and skills for you to learn and utilize as you make your way through the game. However, if there is one character you are looking to main in the game when playing with friends, then this guide is here to help you decide.

Knightwing: Acrobatic Brawler

Gotham Knights Nightwing Guide

If you are looking for a more close-combat hero, then Nightwing is for you. He is more suited to close combat instead of using his ranged skills. Most his abilities will increase and buff his melee skills as opposed to the ranged abilities. He has his batons which are used for both close range and a long-range concussive blast. His unique traversal ability is the Flying Trapeze which allows you to get around the City much easier.

When using Nightwing, you can build up his four skill trees to further better the melee damage you can already output. Most of his skills will help to add attacks to his melee combos and also increase critical chance and damage. With Nightwings history in the circus, it is no surprise that he also is very acrobatic. This is why there is an Acrobat skill tree that helps to increase the evasive ability of Nightwing, making you harder to hit and increase your range of attacks.

Red Hood: Supernatural Gunslinger

Gotham Knights Red Hood Guide

Red Hood is more geared towards his ranged attacks with the non-lethal guns he has at his disposal. He is very adept at close combat, however he is slower than other heroes — this is why utilising his guns can really help to overpower enemies. Red Hood is seen as the strongman of the group, so overpowering enemies is his specialty. When looking at his skill trees, you are going to see that you are upgrading his grab attacks and how he can inflict fear on enemies.

Along with his brawler skills, you are also going to be able to upgrade his ranged attacks — this is what the bulk of the skill trees focus on. Things like headshot damage, reload rate, and damage increases, you can really make Red Hood a gunslinging force to be reckoned with. When leveling up Red Hood’s Brawler skills, you can upgrade to perform grabs on stronger enemies and grab enemies with higher health. This not only will help when interrogating enemies, but it also means that when you’re fighting stronger enemies, you can do more damage to them with grab strikes and get your self out of sticky situations with a grab. Red Hood’s traversal ability is more mystical than others as he calls on his mystic abilities from the Lazurus Pit to jump in midair and travel further around the map.

Batgirl: Combat & Tech Expert

Gotham Knights Batgirl Guide

Batgirl is a great all-rounder. She has great movement and close-range combat, while also having some great ranged attacks with her Batarangs. In addition to her combat skills, Batgirl also has hacking skills which you can utilize when going around Gotham fighting crime and solving cases. The hacking abilities allow you to use AR mode to hack and disable certain devices like cameras and turrets. You can also overcharge weapons to electrocute enemies. You are also able to upgrade Batgirl’s skills to make her invisible to sensors and cameras, making your stealth missions that much easier.

Another great aspect of Batgirl’s abilities is the Drone Momentum ability you can unlock. This ability allows you to call a drone to you which will heal any allies with you, but it will also shoot at nearby enemies. It will only last for 30 seconds and has a six-minute cooldown, but it is really handy in a pinch. You can also level up the drone in the Knighthood skill tree which will give the drone a damaging pulse it emits once per summon and increase the fire rate of the drone to deal more damage. In the Knighthood skill tree, you will also unlock her traversal ability which is a cape glider, allowing you to traverse more effectively.

Robin: Master Of Stealth

Gotham Knights A Guide To Playing Robin

Robin is a great hero if you are into stealth and takedowns, with Robin you can expertly dip in and out of combat to take enemies by surprise. Robin’s skills are geared more towards the stealth and close combat, with his expertise of the Bo Staff, you can easily dispatch enemies should you need to take them out head-on. With the use of the first Skill tree, Slugger, you can increase the damage output of Robin in combat; this includes skill upgrades for the decoy Momentum ability.

Some of the stealth skills can be really helpful to get you in and out of situations, like silent footsteps when not sprinting, increased damage when undetected, allowing takedowns to be performed on larger enemies (and heal you in the process) — also, you are harder to be noticed. You are also able to get a perk that if you perform an aerial attack, you then drop a small cloud of smoke, allowing you to slip back into stealth seamlessly. Robin’s Knighthood traversal ability is a teleport which can be done over short distances to help traverse buildings and areas quickly. You are also able to unlock skills in the Knighthood tree that allow you to perform a teleport on enemies to take them down from a distance, allowing you to stay unnoticed.

All Heroes Are Viable In Co-op

In co-op mode, you will likely want to stick with the hero you’re most comfortable with, so pick wisely among your group of friends. In solo mode, continue trading off between the characters. Every hero has perks and skills that are great for all kinds of situations. When going into missions, if you feel you are struggling, or you think the description of that mission suits a certain hero, then swap to them. By utilizing all heroes, not only will you get a great idea of which is your favorite, but it can also help to make passing certain missions easier because you can tailor your heroes to certain scenarios.

This will also make sure, should you be playing co-op mode with friends, that you know which hero suits you best. Plus, if your favorite hero is already taken, at least you have some experience with the others. One of the great things in solo mode is that all heroes level the same even if unused, so if you use Knightwing for half of the main campaign, then you choose to switch to Red Hood, he will be the same level as Knightwing and have all the AP points you have earned to unlock skills.
