Where was Bodies filmed? The main locations revealed

New Netflix limited series Bodies, starring Stephen Graham, is set across multiple timelines in past, present and future London, as four murders are investigated.

A synopsis of the show reads: “When a body – the same body – is found on Longharvest Lane in London’s East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053, one detective from each period must investigate.

“As connections are drawn across the decades, the detectives soon discover their investigations are linked, and an enigmatic political leader – Elias Mannix (Stephen Graham) – becomes increasingly central. Did he have a part to play in the murder? Or is something far more sinister at play?

“To solve the mystery, our four detectives must somehow collaborate and uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years.”

Though the show was based in London across multiple different timelines, the show was actually filmed elsewhere in the UK. Here are the main shooting locations for Bodies.

Where is Bodies filmed?

Despite being set in London, much of Bodies was filmed in Leeds. Show creator and writer Paul Tomalin said of filming in the Yorkshire city: “It was my first time shooting in Leeds and it’s great. The people are wonderful. It’s got really great food and I really enjoyed working with the crew there. The sets they built and the locations, not just in Leeds but also in places like Bradford and Rotherham, were amazing.

“It really felt like we were stepping into Victorian England, which must have been pretty grim and I don’t think I’d have survived back then. The entire shoot, across all these different time zones, was really difficult but that’s good because it meant that everyone was stretching themselves.

“Everyone was like ‘Wow, it feels like we’re doing something different’. I could see everybody in the crew and the directors trying to jump between time zones, different sets and different plots. I was just content in my tweed.”

Longharvest Lane, the location where the body is found in all four timelines, is fictional, with scenes shot in Sheffield.

Series producer Susie Liggat added of shooting in the north: “The whole show is set in Whitechapel, London. It’s an essential part of its DNA, but having relatively recently made Giri/Haji, I know how difficult and expensive it is to film in London.

“Also most of historic Whitechapel got flattened in World War Two, so we made a patchwork of locations in the North that served our story beautifully. Big shout outs to Grimsby Docks and Wentworth Woodhouse!”
