In Elden Ring, many incantations focus on healing or buffing you and your allies, and some incantations deal damage and debuff your enemy. A debuff is an excellent option against a boss, as they can be incredibly lethal. Making use of a debuff while also buffing yourself can put you at a significant advantage in a game where you’re supposed to have a disadvantage against enemies.

With all dragon-based incantations, Greyoll’s Roar requires faith and arcane to cast, but this is a must-have for players who are focused on dragon-based incantations. Defeating Greyoll is also an incredible source of runes early into the game and surprisingly easy to obtain if you don’t want to fight five smaller dragons directly.

Player Standing Before Greyoll

To obtain Greyoll’s Roar, players must first find and kill Elder Dragon Greyoll in Caelid. Many may recognize this dragon as one of the biggest creatures you can find in the Lands Between. To kill Greyoll, players must either attack the dragon directly and whittle down its massive health bar or kill the surrounding five smaller dragons. Killing each of the smaller dragons will hurt Greyoll, and killing all of them will kill Greyoll. However, going straight against Greyoll by using bleed is a better option. The best option is to run behind Greyoll and attack its tail where the other dragons won’t see you.

Using a bleed weapon will also speed this process up, as the bleed effect goes off a percentage of the target’s health. With Greyoll having so much HP, the percentages for each build-up will possibly be in the tens of thousands. After defeating Greyoll, the surrounding smaller dragons will also die, and you’ll receive five dragon hearts and have the ability to trade for Greyoll’s Roar. Head to the Church Of The Dragon Communion and trade three dragon hearts for Greyoll’s Roar. Should you have already used the five obtained dragon hearts, you can farm more from any other dragon field boss around the world.

Player Purchasing Greyoll's Roar

Greyoll’s Roar requires 28 faith and 17 arcane to memorize and will cost 50 FP to cast. This incantation also takes up two memory slots. Enemies near the caster will receive a high amount of physical damage and will have a lower attack and defense stats debuff for a minute. This incantation does have a longer cast time, but the subsequent debuff duration makes it very worthwhile.

This incantation is best when used at the start of battle or upon entering a boss room. Without an ally to distract the boss, you’ll need time to cast for this incantation correctly with the boss’s combos, as there will be brief time periods where you’re left open to attacks. This incantation also offers a surprising amount of damage, making it a worthwhile AOE attack for damage alone.
