What to do if you failed at protecting the Empress in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

Did you fail the Shadowed Prayers quest and was unable to save the Empress from being assassinated? There is no need to worry, as this guide will explain what you need to do if you fail to save the Empress in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Shadowed Prayers: What to do if you failed protecting the Empress?

If you fail to save the Empress in Dragon’s Dogma 2, the Shadowed Prayers quest will show an area marker in the same area but with no objective. The game doesn’t tell you that you can’t continue the quest’s storyline until you meet Menella in Volcanic Island Camp in the Agamen Volcanic Island region. Check the image below for where you need to go.

Once you reach this location, Menella can be found on the way to the Hot Springs. She will interrupt you with a short cutscene as you walk by if you accidentally miss her, so don’t stress too hard about finding her. Below is the exact location of where I found her in the camp:

Menella will talk about the assassination that took place in Bakbattahl (the Shadowed Prayers side quest). After exhausting her dialogue, a new quest called “A Candle in the Storm” will unlock, informing you of your next objective in the storyline. You have now got over the hump of failing to save the Empress in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Who is the Gaoled Brigand in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

The first step in A Candle in the Storm is to find a Gaoled Brigand. The Gaoled Brigand is a character named Herman who is being held in the Bakbattahl jail.

To complete the A Candle in the Storm side quest, you must head to the Bakbattahl jail and speak to Herman, who is accused of murdering the Empress. He is found in a jail cell on the first floor of the prison, and once you speak to him, he will ask for 5000 gold.

You can either pay him this 5000 gold for information on who the mastermind behind the assassination was, or you can head over to our guide about paying gold in the Bakbattahl jail. I recommend you choose the latter to save yourself from wasting 5000 gold.
