What Remains of Edith Finch might receive an enhanced next-gen version on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S almost 8 years after its original launch.
According to a report from Twisted Voxel, It seems like What Remains of Edith Finch will soon get a native next-gen version as the game has been listed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on Taiwan Games Rating Board.
It’s yet to be seen whether the last-gen owners of What Remains of Edith Finch will receive a free upgrade to next-gen or not, but first of all, we should wait for an official confirmation from either Giant Sparrow or Annapurna Interactive.
Moreover, if a next-gen version actually comes out, it would be interesting to know what improvements have been applied to the game. Increased frame rate, as well as support for higher resolutions, could be the least we can expect from the developers. Supporting a ray-tracing feature could also be the cherry on top of the cake.
Originally launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, What Remains of Edith Finch was one of the highly-acclaimed indie titles at the time, with a layered story focusing on the unusual life of each member of the Finch family. The game was also released on Nintendo Switch a few years later.
Thanks to its unique narration with a successful combination of dream and reality, What Remains of Edith Finch offers a surreal adventure with outstanding gameplay features and creative puzzles, keeping you engaged with the story until the very end of the game.
Unfortunately, though, Giant Sparrow has not launched anything new since What Remains of Edith Finch. That being said, we do know that the developers are working on a new story-driven game, but it is yet to be revealed officially.
Since the launch of the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, we have seen many AAA games getting either enhancement upgrades or native next-gen versions, but unfortunately, it is not as common for indie titles. While there are many iconic indie titles from the last generation of consoles that truly deserve a next-gen upgrade, only a handful of them have received enhancement so far.
