Some held items boost the power of moves of a specific type. These are purely beneficial items that are good options when no alternatives make sense. One of the most popular types is Fairy, so it’s only natural that players would want to power up their Fairy Pokémon. Here’s our guide on what items boost Fairy type moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

What items boost Fairy type moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Every type found in Pokémon has a corresponding item that boosts the power of moves of that type. For most of these type-specific items, they provide a 20% boost in power. For example, a Never-Melt Ice item would boost the base power of Ice Beam from 90 to 108. This buff stacks with other bonuses, such as the 50% granted by STAB and relevant abilities like Adaptability and Iron Fist.

To boost Fairy type moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet you need a Pixie Plate. Unfortunately, the Pixie Plate is not currently obtainable in the new entries. This is because unlike most type boosting items, the Pixie Plate is instead one of Arceus’ plates that determines its active typing. Since Arceus isn’t obtainable in Scarlet and Violet, neither are his plates.

This troubling situation is a result of how the type boosting items were added in the first place. They were added back in Generation 2 and have hardly been updated since. The Fairy typing wasn’t introduced until Generation 6, 14 years after Generation 2 first arrived. This means that the Fairy Type never had a traditional type-boosting item, and Game Freak hasn’t added one.

The good news is that you probably won’t have to wait too long to get a Fairy Plate. In Spring 2023, it is expected that support for Pokémon Home will be added. Once Pokémon Home support is added and Arceus arrives with it, the Pixie Plate should follow, allowing you to boost Fairy type moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
