What is a Moniker and how is it used in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

One of the first big decisions you need to make in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is choosing a Moniker. If you’re confused about what a Moniker is for your Arisen and your Pawn, read on.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Monikers: What are they?

  • Dragon's Dogma 2 Arisen Moniker
  • Dragon's Dogma 2 Pawn Moniker

When you are in the Arisen and Pawn character creator, you get to manually enter a name that can be anything you like and then you need to pick a Moniker. As far as the team at PC Invasion can tell, names are what you and your friends see and Monikers are what non-friends see.

Unlike how you can easily change Vocations, you can only change your Moniker through a barber in a city, which is the same way you change your appearance. The only problem with this is it’s very expensive. Because of that, I caution you to take the Moniker seriously.

We think the reason Monikers are used instead of manually entered names is because of a safety filter. I’ve seen real names of Pawns in-game before — and we’ve confirmed that using your friend’s Pawn shows you their real name — but everything hinges on if it’s deemed appropriate. If the name is inappropriate in any way, the Moniker is used.

I’ve also seen a hint screen say that Monikers are used when a player is using a different language. Instead of seeing a language you aren’t familiar with, you’ll see the Moniker.

So the Moniker is used in many ways in Dragon’s Dogma 2. In my opinion, you should spend more time selecting a good Moniker for your Pawn first and then focus on the name, or make the name the same as the Moniker. For your Arisen, the Moniker doesn’t matter as much, so you can focus more on the name there.
